Well, it appears everyone's cool with ignoring everything but indie rock. In America, at least, the biggest-selling albums of the decade were mostly pop and hip-hop records. Even now we're seeing the R'n'B sound that Timbaland and The Neptunes helped to mold pervading into the indiesphere thanks to the The xx and others, and you're all still arguing over which white indie-rock band molded the decade lol.

radiohead should be there by the same logic that modest mouse is there and i'd probably go for them.
that being said from these options i vote for arcade fire. although the strokes started a movement that followed by interpol, franz ferdinand, bloc party, yeah yeah yeahs,... which overall was a series of good debuts and bad follow ups which lost its magic almost by mid 2000s.

To be honest, none of them did.

Arcade Fire released their first album almost halfway through the decade, that doesn't mold the decade, that molds half, if you can even call it molding the decade, rather they molded more of the indie rock scene.

My opinion is that Modest Mouse didn't mold anything, they just took something and made that into greater extents than almost any other band could do, their influence is medium at best, but they have quality so I cant hold that against them.

The strokes are probably the best option as pointed out by Lethal.

I mean Mues and Coldplay probably have a certain amount of influence, not too sure how much though.

Animal Collective, well they're the same with Modest Mouse, except not quite as good (in my opinion).

So I voted Modest Mouse solely because none of these bands came close to molding the 00's as a whole so instead I chose who i thought was best because none of them did what the pole was asking for.

I would like to further piss off all the Strokes fans on this website by reinstating that my favourite Strokes album is First Impressions Of Earth.

Radiohead is still probably "the" shaping band of the 2000's as most of their influence was seen during the oughties. I chose Arcade Fire, cause they're pretty much the closest thing.

That hurts. But First Impressions is horribly underrated.

I actually consider The Strokes to be pretty historically irrelevant, at least compared to every other listed band there.

Well, as far as preference goes, it's very close between The Strokes and Modest Mouse for me. But as far as who molded the 00's the most, I'd say that goes between The Strokes, Arcade Fire, and The White Stripes. But where as The White Stripes and Strokes both had huge influences on garage rock style indie, I feel Arcade Fire's influence is still really prevalent today and even shaped more, so I'd go with them.
