Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock sound like nothing else. It is amazing how the band evolved from their early records.

Anyways, Talk Talk is one of my favorite bands, and if I could make music, I would use them and early Tortoise as a template upon which to create my music.
Great combination. I would also add Matching Mole.

I bought The Colour of Spring without expecting much, but it turned out to be one of my favorite albums. It would have been perfect if Life's What You Make It didn't cycle through the same bass line the entire song.

I haven't listened to Laughing Stock or Spirit of Eden yet, though.

At least telling people to listen to Talk Talk is a better idea than telling people to listen to Cher

I just bought Spirit Of Eden on vinyl today lol. Nearly 30€, is was fucking expensive, but it's totally worth it.

I don't count organs as synths, and thus Spirit of Eden is completely devoid of synths. In fact, I find the organs my favorite part of Talk Talk, and actually wish they were more present in Laughing Stock. Mark Hollis is both a masterful organ and guitar player, so it's difficult to want him play one and not the other.

Anyways, Talk Talk is one of my favorite bands, and if I could make music, I would use them and early Tortoise as a template upon which to create my music.

The pure diversity of, the philosophy behind, and the exploration of genres and timbres in their last two albums (all while sticking to a relatively accessible sound) make them one of the greatest bands I've ever heard.

theharrisonfords was the first to really push them on BEA, and since he's left I've been pushing them, and I'm very glad to see that they've gained relatively widespread recognition here. Enjoy them, and give them a chance; it took me months to get into them and now they're a weekly necessity on my listening list.

Funny; I was just listening to Happiness Is Easy.

I think Laughing Stock is infinitely better than Spirit of Eden - it removes itself even further from their New Wave pasts and has some really lush acoustic instrumentation, it feels much more varied - plus I think the melodies are just nicer. Spirit of Eden is a little synth heavy sometimes.

Still, both are masterpieces.
