I don't think I would skip school but I would definetley cry! If any My Chemical Romance member died I would weep. I would probably cry at school too. 🫢

I went to school the morning after John Lennon was murdered. I was in elementary school, so I didn't have much of a choice. I do remember getting sick not too long after though and staying home because I remember my mom bringing me home tribute magazines. Hmmm... maybe my symptoms were psychosomatic.

I was shocked yesterday when I heard The Smothers Brothers announced their retirement Sunday. I could have sworn Tommy Smothers died a decade ago. But apparently not. I know I wasn't confusing Tom Smothers with the late Dick Martin, despite the similar on-stage personality.

From the responses that have come out .. This has inspired me to put another thread on here

"Celebrities You Cant Believe Are Still Alive"

I poured some beer on the ground for Dio who died a few days ago.

Paul McCartney will probably get like 5 tribute concerts when he finally bites the dust, i'm sure a bunch of stupid chumps will stay home and beat off to the genius of "Back to the Egg" too.

Bob Dylan will probably get some tears out of people who "feel like they knew him".

Keith Richards, Lemmy, and Iggy will probably never die. And if they do, their ghosts will be flying in and out of humbuckers for the rest of eternity.

I think it's a cultural thing that began maybe 50 years ago. As I noted above, celebrity worship culture - and young girls seem the most susceptible to it, hence the prevalence of teen shows centered around a "big star" and the boy-band phenomenon where each boy has a manufactured personality that can be gossiped about. Not to mention the "pop star" phenomenon where a no-talent or barely talented girl becomes the next big thing thanks to autotune. All are presented to girls in a "worship me because you want to be me" kind of package, and the girls are encouraged to become emotionally involved so that they'll buy all the merchandise that gets attached to the star.

Boys, on the average (<-- stress, stress!!), are less emotional and therefore a little less susceptible to such manipulation. Instead, advertisers market to them to encourage them to portray themselves as tough and cool, hence the reason so many damned teenage boys get involved with rap music and dress like thugs. If their celebrity icons die in a blaze of gunfire, though, it just adds to their legend and is no reason to stay home from school/work.
