Actually that is a good idea seeing as I was just raving about House for those reasons. Ima check it out.

It's not as dark as The house of the rising sun (the song that is), but I really like the feel of the album, and there is plenty of keyboard use in it, which is always something the animals excel at.

You don't know me very much. But hello.

I recommend the album "So Alone" by a Johnny Thunders. He was the guitarist for NY Dolls, and this is his first solo album from '78. It's pretty much like one of my fave albums. I really think it's a gem for people who like cool New York punk with cool 50s throw backs and references and some great rock guitar, excellent and heartbreaking songwriting, and just a lot of energy. I truly adore it.

Taillights Fade has been on my iPod for a couple of years already, so this album's a good idea.

The Stuffies also are a good one - they've been doing shows with Jesus Jones several times in the past few years, so it does seem a kind of natural band for me to check out.

In light of some rather 'up and down' recommendations, thought I'd chuck a few LPs at you that may be worth a listen, given some of your tastes suggested by your chart:

PAINS OF BEING PURE AT HEART - Belong

Produced by Alan Moulder, very early 90s sound along the lines of Gish/Siamese Dream, much more fuzz that their debut, which is more indie-pop than the anthemic tone of this, their follow-up. Great live too (with a very cute keyboard player). Personally I prefer their debut, but this is probably going to be more up your street.

BUFFALO TOM - Let Me Come Over

Being of a similar age to you, I remember hearing this album in the early 90s and wondering why no-one else seemed to catch on. College radio alt-rock, start with Tailights Fade and Velvet Roof, see how you go from there.

RED HOUSE PAINTERS - Down Colourful Hill

A beautiful, beautiful record. Morose, downbeat, depressing even - but powerful and consumable in one sitting, assuming you've hidden the knives away. If it gets too much stick on It's Only Right and Natural by The Frogs to provide a counterpoint 😁 😁 😁

PAWS - Cokefloat!

Please, DON'T GO for the Yuck record previously recommended before you've listened to this. Yuck got tons of press and hype but disappeared without trace, and for good reason. PAWS are a Scottish 3-piece who've just had a terrific stint at SXSW. Think you'll really dig it.

WONDER STUFF - Never Loved Elvis or The Eight-Legged Groove Machine

I'd be surprised if you hadn't already heard either of these, but what the hey...

THIS IS IVY LEAGUE - S/T

Severely under-rated Simon and Garfunkel copycats from the late 00s. Some divine little ditties, good for a summer's drive to the seaside.

If you've not heard it, Yuck by Yuck would probably appeal to you.

A lot of references to 90's alternative music, and seems like it covers absolutely every variety. As an overview, I would say it sounds like a lot of radio friendly post-punk revival music on your chart (like Keane, Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs etc.) but with a more effected, shoe-gaze esque guitar on top.

No, but I'll throw them into the list. I like that one song of his (despite some questionable lyrical choices in it - he's no wordsmith to be sure), but was less impressed by others I've heard. But I'll give his album a listen.
