I haven't seen that many actually...

Moonrise Kingdom (+9/10)
Amour (9/10)
Zero Dark Thirty (-9/10)
Life of Pi (a good 8/10)
The Perks of Being a Wallflower (8/10)
Jagten (8/10)
The Comedy (-8/10)
Argo (-8/10)
Silver Linings Playbook (+7/10)
The Sessions (+7/10)
Lincoln (7/10)
Dark Shadows (7/10)
Hunger Games (-7/10)
Django Unchained (-7/10)
Ted (6/10)
Beasts of Southern Wild (+5/10)

The Master would be in the upper half... But I was in a bad state of mind when I watched it so parts of it went by without me knowing what happened.. That's why no rating so far.
I'm not counting that one documentary I saw + another slovenian movie that premiered on a festival in 2012, but only got into theatres a couple of weeks ago..

Have you read the book, though? If anything, Bilbo only really serves in the first half of the book to be an outsider's perspective on the dwarves' adventures. He's essentially the Nick Carraway of Middle-Earth until the second half of the novel.

Anyway, you do give a good argument, Jack. But I still think Avengers was the best superhero movie I've ever seen.

And Jason, you have The Hobbit down. It was a little more boring. And seriously, I WANTED TO SEE MORE BILBO. It's a movie about BILBO. It's titled The HOBBIT. Not The DWARVES. And the end scene with Smaug's eye was as predictable as the end of the 90's Godzilla movie.

I would watch Dredd, if it weren't excessively bloody. I'll see it on TV. I just don't like heavy blood, unless it was from Jeff Goldblum's The Fly, which wasn't as gory as many horror movies, but had some gory parts.

The trailer for Dredd looked freaking awesome, though.
*coughs*

I thought Avengers was a bad movie.

Sucked? Not quite. It was at the very least enjoyable, but:

The villain was inconsequential. His role in the movie made about 0 sense - he was by far the least interesting of all the villains put forward so far by the Marvel Movie Universe (which is saying a lot considering how uninteresting, trope and badly written pretty much all of them were), and his motives reaches levels of "full retard". You know how Thor seemed kinda confused by the whole thing? Well, he should have been. And so should have EVERYONE ELSE. Because Loki's motives make NO. FUCKING. SENSE.

The bad guys were really bad CGI. I mean, seriously, for a movie this big of a budget I expect the bad guys not to be generic aliens pulled from a PS2 game. They looked HORRIBLE. I also don't see how the invading aliens couldn't have been the Skrull. That'd have been awesome.

The action just wasn't all that great. It was just kinda "alright", even for a Marvel movie. Iron Man had better action than this. You want good action? Dredd came out last year too, watch that. Five times the movie The Avengers was.

Attempts at clever writing that are just BLISTERINGLY bad. And this is Joss Fucking Whedon. He should be able to do better than this. Every single character in this movie is some snarky wise-ass Whedon reject. He takes all his worst instincts as a writer and puts them on full display here. And god all the fucking TALKING. There's so much fucking TALKING and all it is is fucking "clever" quips and one-liners back and forth. It's vomit-inducing. It's like a bad parody.

It lacked a satisfying climax. Loki just gets his ass beat by The Hulk. We end up watching a villain we don't really have any feelings towards (perhaps we'd hate him if his "evil plan" made sense) getting beaten up by a character I don't even recall him ever meeting and thus the conflict contains absolutely no catharsis or closure whatsoever.

...and that's only a couple reasons. Is Dave around? I'm sure he can flesh out the rest.

Why would anyone think Avengers sucked? If it's because there's too many heroes, keep in mind you don't see the Avengers without knowing before you see it that there are SUPPOSED to be many superheroes. Avengers, as in plural. Not one guy.

By the way, is Life of Pi any good? I also want to see Les Miserables.
Not in the same realm of quality as LOTR. Visually it was good, but the story actually bored me quite a bit. The only excuse it gets is that it's one book being broken down in several films, while LOTR were actually three individual book. Plus, The Hobbit was written for children while LOTR was meant to reach a more mature audience.

revolver94 wrote:

Can anyone else agree with me that the Avengers kind of sucked?

Idk if I'd say "sucked" but it was definitely not as good as people are trying to make it seem. Not even as good as The Dark Knight Rises.

For me Moonrise Kingdom is quite simply the best piece of art made in 2012. Truly a masterpiece! Superb directing, lovely soundtrack, beautiful cinematography... absolutely brilliant!

Cloud Atlas is another masterpiece too, 160 minutes of art 😁 Really enjoyed this movie, you guys should check out this picture.

I think I saw a grand total of three movies in the theater this year. The Master, Dark Knight Rises, and Finding Nemo 3D. I wanted to see Argo and The Man With the Iron Fist but I've just been too busy lately. I'll probably (have to) see Les Mis before the year is over.

The Pirates! Band of Misfits
Wreck-It Ralph
Man On a Ledge
Gone
The Three Stooges (worst of the lot)
Rock of Ages
Lincoln

Really want to see Moonrise Kingdom, Dark Knight Rises, and Frankenweenie.
