I don't seem to understand Led Zeppelin I or Neon Bible. Both are just quite boring to listen to, really.

There probably is a lot of great music hidden underneath that heap of garbage hair metal and Phil Collins pop. 🫢

It's just that all the albums from the 80's in my chart are from the last three years of the 80's with only Joshua Tree really being an 80's album for me.

But you are definitely right, I think the 80's were the seeds of the good music of the 90's+ the same way the 50's were the seeds of the great music of the 60's

To be fair, popular music in the 80s was pretty horrible, so if only looking at the surface it was a very bad decade. But the 80s also brought hip hop, indie rock, and some quality metal. I'd say R.E.M., The Pixies, The Cure, The Smiths, Cocteau Twins, U2, XTC, Run DMC, NWA, Public Enemy, Eric B & Rakim were all quintessential 80s artists.

I can understand what you're saying somewhat, yet I may be still slightly confused, I know Talking Heads were releasing music in the late '70s, yet personally I've always considered their new wave/art punk/etc. style sound, to be different from the type of sound that is 'generally' associated with the '70s (Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc.), I've always felt that Talking Heads were more of '80s style band (If that makes sense...) and I definitely feel they peaked in the '80s with Remain In Light and Stop Making Sense.

As for Pixies and Sonic Youth, again these bands peaked in the 80's (Albeit the late '80s admittedly), I can however understand how they had a '90s vibe with the whole early '90s alternative rock scene, but in my opinion that scene first became prominent in the '80s courtesy of bands like REM, Sonic Youth, etc. and without this the '90s probably wouldn't been the same in terms of music.

I guess we all have our own ways of regarding what each decade sounded like. Anyway, there's plenty more to the '80s then you realise, you may just have to dig deeper to find it, trust me, it's worth it.

I just don't get Bob Dylan. Three albums in the overall Top 40. His music bores me senseless. Likewise Van Morrison and the tedious Astral Weeks. Worthy mentions also for Fleet Foxes and Absolution by Muse. 'Time is running out' is a great track but the rest of that album is awful!

The atmospheres are dull and dreary, their songwriting is monochromatic and the singer's lispy mumbling pisses me off...oh and the album goes on and on and on and on and on......

I love this album, but can understand this for sure. This album isn't really all that thrilling on a musical level, and if you don't enjoy his voice, it'd be easy to lose interest. Plus, if you're not crippled with melancholy, the general mood of the record might be a put off.

I personally love Mark Kozelek and think he's a great lyricist.

As for Godspeed. I think it all makes way better sense live. I like the albums quite a bit, but like most post-rock it's a much different experience live.
Ok Computer - because my dumbass listened to a Radiohead compilation so it doesn't flow
London Calling - see Ok Computer
Abbey Road - Fucking Maxwell's Silver Hammer
Blonde On Blonde - Fucking Rainy Women

Bands I like with many albums I don't get:
Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, The Velvet Underground, The Flaming Lips, Joy Division

Bands I don't get at all: Stone Roses, The Smiths, R.E.M, The Police, Beastie Boys.

As you can see I really despise the 80's 🧱

And whoever thinks the Who is a singles band is nuts, their younger years were pop heaven, but Who's Next and Tommy took rock to it's very limits before those asshole Led Zeppelin crossed the line to crappy heavy metal where "sound" passed "quality"

Oh, there are so many, especially non-metal albums from the 80s generally leave me cold. I actually get suspicious when I see people like every "classic" album there is, it makes me think they don't really have their own taste. Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Velvet Underground, The Byrds, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and many many more have released albums I just don't get, or get but don't appreciate. I'll refrain from listing them, as it would be an exercise in tediousness.
