I thought I'd listened to all the tournament candidates, but this Randolph guy somehow slipped by, I don't remember him. Some listening to do. Fiery Furnaces I really liked.

From wikipedia cuz I'm lazy: The Fiery Furnaces are a U.S. indie rock band formed in 2000 in Brooklyn, New York.[1] The band's primary members are Matthew and Eleanor Friedberger. The siblings are originally from Oak Park, Illinois, a near-western suburb of Chicago.

Well. The Fiery Furnaces are an indie rock/art rock/progressive rock group who have a very unique and recognizable signature sound, which is what, to me, the inside of a toy factory sounds like. Kind of mechanical, kind of detuned, very childlike and fun, catchy melodies. The lyrics match the sound as well. Overall these make for an amazing band who must be one of the few "indie" sound bands who aren't all sensitive and sad all the time, but instead are an entertaining, relaxed and fun listen.

Blueberry Boat is, IMO, their best album by far. Its title track is also their best track. Make sure to get the lyrics, for they are great, even if not as "deep" and "abstract" as some others.

BB is similar to a nautically themed musical circus preformed by Grace Slick and The Mothers of Invention. The lyrics/stories feature, Blueberry Pirates, Runaway Dogs (ask Shane spear), the world series, first voyages at sea and your ex going out with your little brother for revenge. Musically the album isn't comparable to anything else, so just suffice to say it is often bizarre yet also very warm and easily danceable. (If your a freak)

Robert Randolph was raised playing the pedal steel in church groups where it was referred to as the Sacred Steel. As he grew older he discovered rock music and adapted his pedal steel playing to the sounds of rock, funk, soul, and gospel to create a truly unique sound. He formed The Family Band with rotating members of his family and hit the jam band club circuit.

Colorblind is the second studio album by Robert Randolph and the Family Band. It features their unique blend of styles as the band is coming into their own. You can literally hear the excitement of them discovering new sounds and melding them into their own style. The album also features a guest appearance by Eric Clapton on a cover of the classic "Jesus is Just Alright" and members of the Dave Matthews Band on "Love is the Only Way". Colorblind is a great, upbeat summer album.
