Youtube loves to mark downvoted comments as "spam" thus silencing individuals who may (or may not) have a point that is valid. So yeah, it's a extremely easy system to manipulate and alienate.

lol. On another forum where I frequent, one user was threatening me that he would lower my karma if I didn't give him any.

His plan was thwarted by me not giving a fuck.

For ever new member that gets rejected by the community, plenty more join in perfectly well. We just seem to be having more idiots (courtesey, scotty) recently. It's not as if everyone's being told to GTFO.

In ways, i agree with you AM. One user isn't responsible for everything negative. I also agree that this site is both wonderful and frustrating at times. I can find the forums just as frustrating as other people (perhaps more so, because I tend to have to clear up the mess afterwards). Obviously, whether people enjoy the forums or not boils down to a personal preference. For me, I much preferred the forums a few years ago.

I think you're right, maybe we are trying to find a solution that doesn't exist, but I'd hate to think of the forums carrying on down the path that they are now on, & just being used by one type of person. It gets boring reading the same stuff all of the time, or knowing the type of response you are going to get to a post that you've not yet made. Since 2009 it's been the same types of people with different names, and there were banned members back then as well. Not sure what all this dark age stuff is about.

No, I don't think JMan is the biggest problem. I think there are quite a few other issues as well, & the forums are only a small part of the overall site. FWIW, JMan is currently sitting out a temporary ban for spamming the forums.
