I like Death Grips, though I don't love them. I didn't go insane over them like it seemed everyone else did.

"Yeezus" however, I am in love with. It's probably my second favorite Kanye album and will definitely be top 10 on my 2013 chart, barring a bunch of other phenomenal albums coming out this year. Everything about that album was great. I still think MBDTF is better, but "Yeezus" is pretty close.

The instrumentation seems pretty uninspired and uneven to me and Hill's choice of rapper isn't exactly dynamic either. But just my opinion.

I don't know what universe I live in, because here Death Grips are anything but uninteresting and bland.
I also never heard of Zach Hill before listening to Death Grips so there goes that theory 🤔

Even as a fan of both Zach Hill and abstract hip-hop, I still can't for the life me figure why Death Grips is popular outside that Zach Hill of Hella/Marnie Stern is involved which is some grade a indie cred right there. 🙄 Both the Death Grips records are some of the most uninteresting and bland "raw" hip-hop I've ever heard and honestly Zach Hill is a amateur compared to Brian Chippendale, John Stanier, and Damon Che.

You just said everything I've been thinking about Death Grips.

Yeezus is currently not on my 2013 chart. Not that it's relevant, but I much prefer Exmilitary and The Money Store over Yeezus. Anyways, yeezus is a nice album, though every album on my chart is much better. It might be a top 150 album at best.

On Sight - not expecting what I just heard. Death Grips anyone?
Black Skinhead - amazing track; up there for the year.
I Am A God - another great track. Maybe better without God?
New Slaves - synth industrial hip-hop? Okay...
Hold My Liquor - vocoder and dark hip-hop. Liking this.
I'm In It - do I really need the audio tape for Kardashian/West action? Maybe it is West on West.
Blood On The Leaves - robot Kanye again. Good track; not sure about it yet.
Guilt Trip - Star Wars and tribal electro. Hmm...
Send It Up - forgettable.
Bound 2 - interesting finale. Old Kanye with experimental chop-change shit.

Saw an earlier post of Death Grips > Yeezus. So far, first listen, I would disagree. I have found it difficult to get into Death Grips and Kanye has made it accessible to listen to industrial/experimental hip-hop for the casual listener. A bit 808s & Heartbreak mixed with My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

Just in my top 100 for the year. Not anything mindblowing. Too inconsistent.

I've come down of the hype now, I still think It's an amazing album, but I can see why people wouldn't enjoy it. A lot of the problems people have with it don't really bother me, and the better parts have more of a positive effect on me. I think I still like MBDTF a bit more, if for nothing less than its wider emotional range and greater array of song styles. This is currently my #2 of the year

The album 🙁 it just sounds so half-assed and almost lazy (both lyricallyy and production wise) to me which I never expected from Kanye. On first listen it's certainly my least favourite of his. At least it has room to grow for me and I do think that Hold My Liquor is brill.

Ok so I've heard this about 5 or 6 times now and you know who it reminds me of? No not death grips. Nicki Minaj. (And before I get the rotten pineapples thrown at me I mean her rap stuff not her pop stuff). I think it's the aggression, vocal variations and breathing/screaming that goes on throughout yeezus that links the two in my head. I mean I Am God sounds like Beez in the trap to me.

Also side note nickis new album is "going back to her rap roots" which is exciting. As much as I love her pink Friday albums I always thought she hasn't made her best work yet. This new one very well could be it especially after how god damn amazing the re up was
