My personal favorite is "Last Nite" by The Strokes, which (according to Petty) has its riff borrowed from "American Girl".

I covered both songs in a band I was in once. Yea, they're exactly the same.

Also, I've only heard The A Team song from Ed Sheeran and it isn't bad.

I love some of it, I am indifferent to most of it, and a few I find really boring (Zombies, curse the Zombies). Yay for Regina Spektor though the album "Songs" really exemplifies her creativity more! XD

And what is this?: Call Of The Valley by Shivkumar Sharma / Brijbushan Kabra / Hariprasad Chaurasia (1967)
Hmm...

Based from what I've heard of Ed Sheeran (a few singles and album cuts) he's pretty awful.

Because I get told that I look like him a lot, and while agree with about "The A Team," I think his sound is very gimmicky. He has some good songs, and he's a fine musician, but I'm kind of sick of him. Also, my roommate blasts him all of the time, and I kind of hate it.

I see what you mean, but for someone who I didn't actually hear of until the middle to end of last year, he seems to get far more hate than I'd expect.

Agreed.

Well sounds like The Strokes admitted it too 😜

Yes, because Chris Martin totally listens to Joe Satriani. There have been several claims about this and none of have any depth of reality. Also, no; it isn't blatant, it's a very common chord progression. It is honestly very disheartening to get into contemporary songwriting due to all of this fear of coming up with rhythms and for people to tell you "you ripped that from this guy, right?" when the answer is either no or the fact they were influenced by it.

Do I have to mention the Lust for Life comparisons to Are You Gonna Be My Girl? I have other instances. The claim is ridiculous and impossible to prove.

A lot of songs share similarities, though! Jet's Are You Gonna Be My Girl? has a lot in common with Iggy Pop's Lust for Life. I don't think it was a conscious influence for Coldplay at any rate, Satriani isn't exactly a well heard musician outside of his influence circle (Vai, Gilbert, Orianthi, etc.)
