This. It actually annoys me when someone calls a normal biscuit a cookie. wtf is wrong with them?

So it's starting to look pretty obvious that it's North American thing to call it block or screen, and a European/Australian thing to call it cream...and a Latin American thing to call it el bloqueador solar, which I hope we can all agree sounds the most awesome.

Most everyone around here calls it sunscreen, with sun tan lotion being the second most common. Never heard of sun "cream" before...

It's kinda necessary on the summer months... Tropical-ish weather makes it so that sun block is not an option but a necessity, if you don't want to lay in your bed moaning for a week. Also skin cancer and all that.

I've never heard an American call it sun cream, though I can't say I've ever discussed sun protection with anyone who isn't American.

I call it sunblock or sunscreen, I try not to call it tan lotion, because that really doesn't make any sense. Tanning lotion is like the opposite of sun protection. I guess "suntan lotion" is supposed to provide a "nice looking" tan while still protecting from the sun, but "tanning oil/lotion" is more likely to burn and harm the skin. Personally I don't get the whole phenomenon with tanning. What's the point of making one's skin a slightly darker shade? I suppose one who spends all their days inside on the computer wouldn't understand such things...
