Voted R.E.M. originally but I wish I voted Joy Division. While I prefer R.E.M., I feel Joy Division sum up post-punk more than any other band.

I used to prefer the three you mentioned, but in the last couple years, I've found that I may prefer the early ones

People really need to get over the genre label thing. If they're in the tourney there in the tourney. I prefer REM (for pretty much all the reasons nezzle gave) and as junodog said do we really want me to win another tournament 🧱

What is it with these people thinking that Joy division are depressing? They SO are not. I find their music to be some of the most uplifting stuff I listen to (and I like Indie Pop and Northern Soul!)

Anyway hands down Joy Division..

a. they are genuinely post punk and not 'sort of' or just straight not like a lot of the other bands in this tournament.
b. I have loved them longer than 99.9% of the users on this forum have been alive. Longevity like that is hard to find!
c. they are awesome with a capital O

REM has my vote. Not a hard choice. I don't like Jou Division very much as of now. And REM is really growing on me. Automatic For The People is almost on my chart and Teckoner and Murmur are brilliant. So REM. I honestly don't see the appeal of JD that much. I can hear the greatness of Unknown Pleasures especially on "She's Lost Control" but Closer has never seemed more than okay to me and usually pretty annoying.

agreed. especially in regards to R.E.M.. When they started, one of their biggest influences was Wire, and those early records show it.

I think you misinterpreted what I said. I mean, there's plenty of artists that were/are in this tourney and are within the genre. There's not only Replacements, REM, and MBV in this tourney. Not only that, but people had the chance to complain about artists being in the tourney before the tourney started. If you didn't argue then (which, if you did, please correct me), I'm not sure why one would be frustrated now. Personally, I would love to get to choose my artists again as I wasn't taking the session too seriously at the time (if I had, then I would have nominated CCCP Fedeli alla Linea), but that's besides the point.

EDIT: I'm not saying you're wrong, but now isn't the time to complain. They're in, so I'm just voting for my preferred artist.
