There's no denying the greatness of Wire: they've got a perfect trio of albums; they continue to make great music; and they're one of the 'big four' of post punk in my eyes (Wire, PIL, Gang of Four, Joy Division). 'Mercy' is one of my favorite songs of all time as well.

That being said, I simply enjoy New Order more. They've got both more songs and more albums that I enjoy. From Power Corruption and Lies to Low Life to Technique, and all the singles in between (Substance 1987), I feel that New Order is my favorite band of the '80s and is one of my top 10 bands overall. They had a big hand in shaping dancefloor music of the '80s and they did it without looking to Africa like many other new wave and post punk groups, and they paved the way for some great groups of the '00s like The Rapture, Cut Copy, and LCD Soundsystem. If I were compile a top-100-songs-of-all-time list, at least three or four would be from New Order (I'm looking at 'Leave Me Alone', 'Temptation', 'All the Way', 'Vanishing Point', 'Ceremony', or 'Thieves Like Us').

I would be glad to see a New Order v. Talking Heads final.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I personally think they are very underrated as an albums band, as people only ever seem to remember the singles. Few bands have had a string of albums as great as their 80's records.

no Age of Consent? crazy.

but yeah i pretty much agree. New Order's got a handful of songs that just exist on another level.

Oh puh-lease, not every 13-year-old is a worthless liar like me.

Yeah, if there's one band that should be a clear winner at this point it's Wire. Well, at least the final won't be Joy Division vs. New Order. 🤣

Honestly, I believe Facetious. He's given me no reason not to believe him previously, I don't see why someone shouldn't believe him now.

If I've known someone to be trustworthy on previous occasions (or, at least, not the opposite of trustworthy), it's difficult not to believe them.

I agree. I've accidentally voted for the wrong thing before. If there was some sort of way to unvote and then vote again he'd have no reason to complain.

I'm sorry, please pardon the term, but there's a real air of douchebag about this comment. The way you don't specifically name the users who are "trying to rig the polls" and then say it's normal for 13 year olds to make the same mistake twice.

I guess if you're 23, you never make the same mistake twice.

So I just voted Wire and considering Facetious' mistake it should really be 13-13 at the moment.

Yeah, Silverwalrus, "Outdoor Minor" is just about as impeccable a song you can fit into under 2 minutes.
