My favorite pop band is My Chemical Romance, but I know you're already familiar with them. Other stuff that comes to mind (sorry if there are repeats)...

Marcy Playground - 90s pop, first two albums might be worth a listen
Traveling Wilburys - supergroup of aging rock stars
The Monkees - Their music is better than their reputation might suggest.
Bruce Hornsby - Underrated easy listening shmaltz. Try "The Way It Is."
The Kingston Trio - These guys were huge back in the day. They sound more like a novelty act nowadays, but it's still fun music. Try their self-titled debut.
Hedwig and the Angry Inch - The album based on the musical. I don't usually like musicals, but this appealed to me.

I'll recommend Diamond Eyes. Deftones don't get much love around here, and when they do Diamond Eyes is almost never mentioned, but to me it's their best effort.

I don't know what exactly you're looking for here with this thread, but have you ever checked out any Mariah Carey albums? I know there are many prejudices against her, it may be stuff you you generally loathe, but personally I think it's perfectly chilled out. Check out Daydream if you're interested! I can also recommend some George Michael, very pleasant pop. Those are two "popular music" artists currently found on my overall chart. 😨

Go check out Paramore- Paramore... it really deserves a good listen, and the band shouldn't be treated like a joke anymore (although Ive always had a soft spot for them).
