The bottom ones I guess don't belong on this list so much as the others, but they're good if I'm in a bad mood.

i assume that if our charts were expanded to 300 or so, we'd have a very high percentage in common. there's just a lot of music out there. 30 bands ain't half bad

Any Radiohead or Joy Division will do. Hail to the Thief is perfect for an angry type of sadness.

Pink Moon and Hospice are both thoroughly depressing.

Personally, when I'm sad and alone I go for one of these more often than anything else:

I would choose some obvious ones: The Wall which is about isolation front and back, and Dirt which has many sad messages.

Here's my favorite when i'm felling a little melancholy. It's a album all about lost love and is very sad, but For me it's like having a old friend to sit with.
