If we're discussing what could be the definitive indie anthem "I'll Believe In Anything" by Wolf Parade always did wonders for me the lyrics, the music, and the vocals all scream 'indie' to me and it is a unforgettable song. Also agree with Purple on "All My Friends" and to a lesser extenet "Way we get by" as possible contenders.

Yup.

I go back and forth between Is This It and Room on Fire as my favorite Strokes album. I can't remember the last time I listened to First Impressions of Earth, so maybe I should give it another listen.

At first, I thought it was crazy to call "Ask Me Anything" an indie anthem, but I listened to it again, and I guess the lyrics kind of give me that vibe. The song as a whole? Mmm... not so much...

Spoon's That's the Way We Get By could have a chance; but look to LCD Soundsystem's Losing My Edge or All My Friends for a definitive indie anthem

Guys... I think I have found the definitive "indie" anthem. A song which is the epitome of the scene they call "indie". The lyrics really epitomize what they call "indie" in the 00s-10s.

that's your opinion buddy ! Room on fire is a masterpiece and first impressions of Earth on of the best albums of the 2000s.

There's indie and major record labels, being an "indie" band when it comes to labels doesn't necessarily mean you aren't signed. In fact, most of the time it is with an independent record label.

Indie, independent, not signed, not under contract, etc etc etc. In Rainbows and Burn Burn are technically indie records, since they're self-produced (since Our Lady Peace and Radiohead are rich enough to do that now). Naveed might have had a more indie sound (OLP's first record) but it wasn't indie because it was signed.

Censored or influenced by recording studios? Do you mean record labels? The guy who owns or operates the studio isnt going to censor the work you make. Even if you meant labels, you'd be surprised how many Indie labels actually do have an influence on the music their bands make.

People seem to mistake indie for a genre a lot. If someone says 'I like indie music' what it should mean is that they just like music which isn't censored or influenced at all by recording studios. This song is so inoffensive I don't see how it makes sense to call it the indie anthem.

It's called 'Ask Me Anything' by The Strokes of "Is This It?" fame 😄 A hidden gem on their last album in 2006. Even if you don't like the band I would give this a listen. Enjoy!
