It could just be a regional trend... I'd be hesitant to extrapolate too much from a single radio station in Belgium. Even if it were a global trend, it wouldn't be that shocking, given that recent music has trended towards heavily produced and abstract electronic music.

I actually find it a bit more interesting the trends in specific songs. It looks like their dreamier, more ambiguous songs have had a popularity surge.

My instinctive reaction to this is: so?

This whole thing stinks of the mentality that kids are discovering 'real' music in a time when 'music isn't like what it used to be'. Pink Floyd are just a band. They've made a collection of rather good albums with longs songs that sequence into one another - so do a lot of bands making music today.

Pink Floyd are cool to like, and they've just ticked over to the point where they can be considered retro, they're not an awful lot better than a 'Keep Calm And Carry On' poster to a lot of people - that's why they're growing in popularity.

I would rather people were getting excited about the rise of new talent and sounds on airplay than a band that everyone knows are critically acclaimed, it's just boring.

Dear international BEA'ers

please take a look at the following figure:

Thumbnail. Click to enlarge.

Source:http://tijdloze.stijnshome.be/artiest/98
Money
Another brick in the wall
Comfortably numb
Shine on you crazy diamond
Wish you were here

This figure shows the perfomance of pink floyd at the yearly "all time classics" list from Belgian radio station Studio Brussel (the list is called "de tijdloze 100" = "the timeless 100" ) This radio station focusses primarly on a younger public (18-25) and usually votes for Nirvana, Pearl Jam or Metallica.

However, we can clearly see that, since 2007, Pink Floyd rose steadily. This is definitely unique for a pre-1985 band and now they're back in the top-3 bands on the list. (Jimi is the only other older guy to rise in recent years).
Another reason this is quite odd, is that the" familly radio" station, with a main public of 40-70 years olds, have their first pink floyd song at position 50 or so. Weird, because they were young when the Floyd was big.

So, the conclusion of all this is that younger people in Flanders (Belgium) seem to be rediscovering Pink floyd as an all-time classic band. I was wondering if you could tell me if this happening in other countries as well? And can you give examples of this?
