I tend to prefer albums that take a light touch approach to production and where the band's live 'sound' sort of comes through!

I also tend to prefer albums with short songs on them... Not for me generally songs that go on for a week and a bit to make some huge point (or just simply to show off) 😄

That said, there are plenty of albums that I like that are highly produced or have some long song wankery going on!

I guess at the end it just boils down to whether the sound and overall effect speaks to me or not!

i guess there are a lot of little things that make an album stick with me.

a unique, individual sound is probably the most important.
it can't be too repetitive (think about how god awful m&s's repetitiveness is and then go on the opposite side of the spectrum and you're good) but it has to remain cohesive
not overproduced
it's not looking to cater to trends or to start some, it's just honest idk
mixing genres well is a great plus to

i feel like i'm forgetting something.

                          What I expect for enjoyment:
well-written songs and good performances; plus a certain honesty and tasteful production (very subjective criterion).
Originality or genuine firsts on top of that? Or when the artists stop playing to actually "become" the music? That's musical bliss to me.

For me it all starts with who is singing the lyrics because if you do not like the way that they sound, what they say is not going to mean a thing.

God bless you and my favorite singers always!!! 😄 😄 😄
Holly

P.S. The next thing for me is what the song is about and how the instrumental delivery is after that.

This is why Radiohead's Kid A is such an incredible achievement. There really is no one genre to which it appeals. There's electronica, jazz-fusion, baroque pop, ambient rock, and some alternative rock. Yet, it all meshes together to form a cohesive experience.

I guess it could, but by consistency I might mean "consistent talent" instead of the same genre over and over again. If every song gets a little more boring than the previous track, I don't find the album to be consistent.

That's like saying a Quentin Tarantino movie is too bloody. Well you could say that, but you'd be missing the point.

Anyway I don't think I look for anything in particular. As long as it sounds honest to me I guess. That is obviously determined on a case by case basis.

I just feel there are too amny echoes for that album. Such as OKC. I like the album a lot, but there are WAY too many echoes in it. That's really what I'm talking about. You people don't have to think the album's overproduced. That's just what I feel about the Joshua Tree. It's onloy a little overproduced.

Also, thanks for the cool info, Jason.
