Thats based on your assumption that genre labels are the source of people 1.not understanding things that are different from what they are used to, and 2.peopl thinking about music in a image based tribal social-clique way.

We are trying to say that both these things precede genres, they are part of the reason genres exist. You have the order mixed up, so your arguments don't work, they make weird not-obvious jumps.

And also genres not existing is actually impossible, inconceivable, I've already said this.

edit: people already have said all this in different ways, I'm being redundant because I started writing this post like 10-15 minutes ago and the thread moved while I was typing.

Also, should one really consider disregarding genres as a whole just because of the habits of musically-inexperienced people? The musically naive? They'll evolve in their musical taste (most will anyways). Who doesn't act like that when they're in their mid-teens? I know I did. But as I matured, so did my musical taste.

I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong. But one thing is absolutely certain, genres can both hurt and help people. Not having them also hurts and helps people. The solution here is almost impossible.

For one? If genres didn't exist (which is inane) there would be no cohesive way to find anything especially for those individuals who seek a certain frame of art. I like classical literature and despise young adult when it comes to bookreading. If I were to find book after book of young adult and find nothing that pertains to my taste I would likely quit reading. Genres are NECESSARY for cataloguing of history of music evolution and transcension, cataloging/archival basis of sound, and even a good major sense of understanding through review criteria.

Your "ideal world" is an anarchic disregard of necessity and utility.

I think it's kind of ridiculous to think that the label matters more than the actual music to people. Not too many people buy an album without at least listening to some samples first.
