I know Glenn Branca's already been mentioned, but you can't go wrong with the one and only Theoretical Girls 7", which (this track anyway) sounds like a Talking Heads track played by a mad kid with a Bontempi organ:

Lesson No. 1 by Glenn Branca

I liked it, for some reason. The first track is obviously flawless, but even the second one was good. Strange, but good. I've also listened to the bonus track (feat. Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo), and I think I enjoyed it even more. I'm not sure I'll be able to get The Ascension before next week-end for personal reasons, but this is already very satisfying. Don't hesitate to give it a try if you're in some adventurous kind of mood. I give it my thumbs up or +1 or whatever.

I actually agree with this, but when I googled No Wave they kept appearing so I thought i'd add them, I guess they probably shouldn't be put forward really, it was probably only due to the fact they released stuff on 99 Records that they became associated.

I'm currently listening to another Lydia Lunch band, 8 Eyed Spy, with a live recording from 1981. I'll tell you if it's indispensable.

Queen Of Siam by Lydia Lunch

It was really strange. Kind of a half-instrumental album full of super noisy "It's Oh So Quiet". It sounds good but I'm not super convinced. It was really unlike anything else I've listened to anyway, I guess it's no surprise if I don't like it at first. I'm just dropping it here to see if some people have listened to it.

It's interesting. I've never had a lot of interest in the No Wave music scene, aside from latecomers like Sonic Youth and Swans, and the general philosophy of the music. Glenn Branca was great though.

But many of the visual artists and filmmakers who came out of the movement are among my favorites. Tony Oursler, Tom Otterness, Barbara Kruger, Kiki Smith, Mike Kelley...etc

This may be a music discussion, but you guys should check out the artwork related to the movement. Really amazing work

One very interesting character from the no-wave scene is Arto Lindsay. I'll try and write a little something about him tomorrow afternoon if you will.

Oh well, makes sense then.

I won't have access to a computer before two weeks, so my only way to listen to new music is Deezer on my phone, and I must say that more than half of the albums suggested here weren't on it. I could find Branca's and Lunch's debuts (but not The Ascension and the other Lunch album suggested by harkan, for some reason), and Primitive Calculators' self-titled. That's not a lot, but that's not bad either. I'll listen to Lydia Lunch's debut now.

This thing is absolutely awesome. Actually it reminds me a lot of Pere Ubu. Is it normal? Is The Modern Dance no wave, too? It gets my thumbs up, or whatever it is called, anyway.
