Well then it can't be someone's principal way of listing to music. You can only vote for one option in the poll, and I doubt anyone here watches more live recording than they listen to albums.

Concerning the thread, I stream and download most of my music and occasionally buy vinyl. What hasn't been mentioned, and what I think is the real strength of vinyl, is how it's split into sides (particularly modern reissues that are often split into 4 sides). What ends up happening is that you fall in love with a side, recognize the complimentary nature of certain tracks, and truly perceive the album in a different way. Often times I'll just put on side 4 of TNT or Ocean Songs and those sides feel like a cohesive listen by themselves. It's also incredibly interesting to see how songs that are 60+ minutes are split, and you'd be surprised at how often this is done incredibly well.

I agree, it is important to support the artist, especially at the beginning of their career.

I still bought a lot of CDs up until recently, but am finding it harder to justify buying them now as once the album is ripped to computer / ipod I rarely use the CD (and it takes up space).

Its an extra backup copy. If digital copies were cheaper Id probably go for just digital, but if a physical copy costs the exact same or in some cases is cheaper why in the world pay more/same for less?

I buy used CDs, import the tracks on iTunes, and then put the cd in a box in the closet. I would download music, but I occasionally like reading through the booklets and used CDs are dirt cheap. I like the look of vinyl, but it's more convenient to access music on my computer and there's no difference in quality.

If I can find it I tend to buy the CD or if I cant I buy the digital copy. Either way 100% of my listening is by ipod or computer. Vinyl has no appeal to me.

There are lots of albums out there nowadays that can't be got via CD's however, bandcamp being a prime example. I personally would have so much less exposure to music if it wasn't for downloading, look at The Poe's charts for example, if he didn't put links up with them I would probably never have heard any of those albums, there's not a hope of finding Asian music in a music shop in Ireland, heck, I was in the nearest music store to my house last week and they didn't even have Reflektor on sale (Bit ridiculous...), physical copies of some albums are just hard to come by, downloading is important for the spread of music in my opinion anyway.[/i]

When I started reaping my CDs - 6-7 years ago, I was reaping them at 128 kbps. Things change fast... 😄

Haha I know what you mean actually. It's like owning antiques. It creates a nice ambience in a room not unlike having a large filled bookshelf and drinking scotch and sitting a classic tufted chair in a den. Hm thats my dream..
