If I had to pick one song to fit this criteria, it would be "The Geese of Beverly Road" by The National. It's my third favorite song, it's spectacularly overlooked, and I send it out on a lot of mixes and so forth.

Doing it the other way...

Aah! How many of these do we need? If one more of these comes up, I'll see no reason not to make another hip-hop thread!

My favorite song has varied over the years, but for now it's I'd Do Anything for Love. Second fave is Pour Some Sugar On Me, and then When the Levee Breaks possibly followed by Rock and Roll. Not sure about the rest of the order.
