The Magnetic Fields (at times, other times they're mind-numbingly sad)
Andrew Jackson Jihad (Interesting as they can be both funny and thoughtful at the same time to an extreme degree)

They Might Be Giants is one of my favorite bands ever, and a big part of that is their juxtaposition of humorous and sometimes nonsensical lyrics with really powerful, emotionally-charged music and subject matter. I'll post examples to highlight what I'm talking about later if I feel like it.

Daniel Knox is a personal favorite. He's got a bit of that Randy Newman whimsy, but I find his humor to be far darker. It's a shame he hasn't found a wider audience.
