Hi there, how are you? Jack here to explain to you all why:
YOU'RE ALL RETARDS AND DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT~!
Let's begin, shall we? 😁

You see, for whatever reason - wait, no scratch that, that's a poor start. We know the reasons. See, the youth of the 1960's were what we called the "Baby Boomers". They grew up in an age of unprecedented wealth and prosperity, and as the first generation to be SO excessively rich they were also highly self-indulgent and narcissistic navel-gazers. Often when we point at the generation that "ruined the planet" both economically and environmentally we point at the Baby Boomers. The reason we look back at the 60's so nostalgically, despite that none of us lived there, it's because the Boomers have played it up so hard - this is why the films and music of the late 60's and 70's are often hailed as the "best ever"; less because they were boundary-breaking and experimental (otherwise the likes of Godard, Bergman, and Fellini would appear on far more "best of" lists than they do) but because they were tied to the golden years of the Baby Boomers.

Keep in mind that the 60's also lacked all of our awesome technological advancements (such as the internet, although if you want to argue with me that you "could live without the internet" how about you make like someone living in the 60's and just don't reply at all) as well as social reforms. In the 1960's homosexuals and blacks were still facing incredible hostility - keep in mind '67 is the year of the Detroit Riots - and women were still viewed in the nuclear family mindset, meaning they were expected to shut up, stay unemployed, and push out babies.

If the best time for you to be alive and 20 years old isn't today then I'm afraid you're living life incorrectly. RIGHT NOW should be the best time for you to live. You should be having the time of your life TODAY. Your desire to live in the 60's likely stems from the fact that you feel you don't have as much fun in the modern day, and if that's true then the problem is you and you would be exactly where you are now in 1967 - unless you're gay, black, or a woman, in which case you'd also be horrendously oppressed. If you are not cool or hip or fun now you wouldn't have been cool or hip or fun then. Not to mention the drugs weren't as good in the 60's, so have fun with all your baby weed.

And if the real issue is you just wanted to be around when the music came out - why? You still have all that music now. Plus more. Are you retarded? Fun fact: the answer is yes and I just finished telling you why.

Or, you know, we just like the music and it would have been cool to be there when it was fresh and the shows weren't as heavily based in nostalgia as they are today. 🙄

I think you are a little retarded as well not taking into account the value of people's perceptions. If you think you can write history based on your sweeping generalizations of a time you limit the reality of relativity.

I was actually expecting more people to be like me and find that somewhere in their early teens was their favorite year. 13-14 was when I really started to fall in love with music and those times definitely reflect my overall taste now. However, at that time I didn't look back much into the late 60's as I rejected that time period of music as rebellion against my parents.

2013, so my current age, 16!

2nd is probably 2007, which would be 10

3rd would most likely be 2004, so 7

My favorite year in music is 1967 (how original), and my favorite time is the late 70s (punk, new wave, reggae). I wasn't born during either, though. And yeah, The Poe got it right on this. I wouldn't trade now for any past moment. Without the Internet and all the shit, I'd probably still be listening to Linkin Park (or the equivalent at the time I'd be living in, you get it).

My favorite years for music are 1967, 1984, 1977, 1971 and 1980. So much good music was released in those years. I wasn't born in any of those years, however.

Well, that's really a different question though, isn't it? My early teens were an important time for me but it wasn't about albums back then. It was all about taping off the radio, 12" remixes and white label promos. My experience of late '60s music wasn't something to look back on, it was there in my dad's record collection and was never something I felt the need to rebel against. The fact that my dad didn't "understand" hip-hop and electro was enough of a rebellion in my eyes.

Yes, it is a different question spurred on by the different responses given. I am one of the offenders that misinterpreted the original intent of the thread.

There seems to be some conflict between how different people are interpreting this thread. I was going mostly on the title, which asks for a favorite year of album releases. I suppose the original post could be interpreted as asking for your favorite time in music history -- then I would agree with anyone who said, "right now.". Maybe the OP could clarify their intentions?

My intent was for people to determine their age corresponding with their favorite year in music.

However, I do admit I am intrigued by the different interpretations of the question.

Based on that, for me the answer is still today. I know more about music today than I did yesterday, and the day before that, and the day before that. Tomorrow's answer? Same thing. That day will be my favorite. Got me?

So that answer remains, for me personally and for where music stands in this world. Each year I learn more about music, and, evolution, there is more music released each year and there is more past music available, too. There is more music all around. More music I know about. More music in the world.

A lot of my favorite albums came out in the late '90s and early '00s, my late teen and early college years, so that was my favorite era. Unfortunately, they were spread out over a few years, so if I had to pick a single year, I'd go with 1967, which was pure concentrated awesomeness. I wasn't born then, so... undefined?

I'm not saying I'd rather live in that time, of course. That's a very different question.

Regardless, I'd rather be 14 in no other year than 2013. Despite all of my family issues and social disorders, I'm trying to enjoy life the most that I can. Music really helps me with that. And, to be honest, you should spend all of the time doing everything that you want at this particular age. Whether you're 14, 30, or 56, you should be enjoying yourself, even if your life is complete shit, and I mean complete shit. I love you all, and I wish you would stop wishing that you were 20 in 1967, 1980, etc. Enjoy yourself while you have the time, and be sure to listen to as much great music as possible! :D

I've heard it said the best age to be is the age you are now.

If my charts are anything to go by it's either '95 or 2011, 25 and 41 respectively. Bear in mind, I haven't compiled my '60s charts yet and I wouldn't be surprised if '67 comes out on top, so I'd have been minus 3 years old (and no, Jackwc, I don't wish I was 20).
