Yeah, I was just surprised he didn't sound like a dumbass like most rappers. A lot of rappers sound good in the recording studio, but put them in an interview seat and they can't deliver their thoughts correctly because of whatever reason. It was nice how he explained some of his lyrics were never meant to be taken seriously. It brings a little more clarity in his intentions when he says some controversial lines.

Ehh, I don't know. Singing involves pitch, timbre, vocal range. I'm not saying that rapping doesn't take talent, but I do think lyrics in rap are far more important to the quality than they are in vocal singing. If "freestyling" is a bare-bones form of rapping, than the lyrics (and the rappers ability to deliver them) are the most import aspect. And, if Kanye's lyrics are bad, is his delivery what sets him apart from other rappers? I guess that is my question. If its not his lyrics, then what is it about Kanye, specifically, that sets him apart? Is he responsible for the production (he employed rick ruben to bail him out last year, with something like 4 weeks before yeezus was supposed to drop.
As for Kanye, I personally think the guy doesn't understand how to interact with people. I think he's similar to Prince in that respect, though less reserved. He just doesn't understand social interaction and how to talk to people. He comes across as egotistical, and he probably is, but I think it stems from his inability to interact with people in a normal way. Often very creative people are a little odd, and I think that's how he is.

I don't know, maybe I'm crazy, but when I see interviews with him, he seems genuine. What he says might sound weird (e.g. his "sonic paintings"), but I think he just says what he feels, which I think is at least somewhat respectable, despite the fact that what he says can be a little crazy at times.

This^ Also, isn't it a shame that his ego distracts from his music? I feel like his attitude gives people false perceptions of his music because the truth of the matter is that he's a pretty solid rapper (and his arrangements are pretty good) despite the fact that his lyrics need a lot of work...
