Over the years, my adoration for "Love me do" grows and grows. It seems to reach out from post war greyness to an yet unknown future.
"Glass onions" keeps it's self destructive force, while looking out for something still not known.
"She said, she said" still makes me cry.
"I'm only sleeping" though stumbling a bit through the all too British bridge, makes me fall in love over and over again.

Eleanor Rigby man. It was the first Beatles song I knew was The Beatles. My jaw dropped. The more I listened the more I heard and discovered. Still am floored by it 100%.

Of course A Day In The Life is one the all time greats as well.

6. You Won't See Me
5. I Want to Hold Your Hand

I spend enough time being annoyed at how often we seem to talk about this band that it's easy to forget I'm actually rather fond of them (also, pop beatles > psych beatles)

Surprised Come Together doesn't have as much love as I thought it would have.

Also if you didn't answer In My Life... well then you probably liked another song better, but I'll ignorantly say you were wrong.

Man, a very tough choice! I WAS going to say 'A Day in the Life' - like so many other people have done. But then I noticed 'Don't Let me Down', and that song, to me anyway, has always had some kind of emotional quality to it that gets me every time. Just the line "I'm in love for the first time/Don't you know it's going to last/It's a love that lasts forever/It's a love that has no past" is a very sad line when you think about. That is, to anyone whose loved and lost, and knows the absolute dismal chances that your first love will be your only one. Cu-dose, John Lennon!

Ok, finally, eventually, I make up my mind: for the epiphanic moment it was when I first listened to it when I was 12, I vote for "Strawberry fields forever". Takes me back there every time.

I'd have to say In My Life. Every time I listen to it I step into Lennon's shoes and imagine myself surrounded by all these people that he lost and that everyone loses at some point. The only thing that we have to combat that loss and loneliness is love, and despite that message being in so much of their other music, it really hits home in this song.

Either that or Wild Honey Pie. It was this close. 🤣
