Huh, I guess today is my last day. Didn't have as much time to listen to music as I'd hoped (or as much time to sort of figure out an original spin for my log) since work and life got in the way (had work this week Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and today; went out this week Thursday night, Friday night, and last night), but it's been a fun experience, I guess. Although I'm pretty sure no one was following (looks at view-count).

Wake up earlier than expected. Time to kill before work. Switch on Fear Of Men's Loom, the debut release by the post-punkers. Such a crisp, relaxing cruise - I'm especially a fan of Jessica Weiss' sweet vocals, vocals I think would particularly resonate with our resident femvox fanboys, Loveless and Saoirse.

I feel like listening to MBV, so I put on Isn't Anything, my favourite release. It's the aural-equivalent of hurling flat stones at a murky pond; Shields and Butcher's vocals are the stone striking the water's surface, the ripples the soft guitar melodies overlaid upon the thick wall of fuzz, herein being the opaque fluid.

Work was long. Come home and check out an album by a local Toronto funk outfit, Between The Cracks by KC Roberts & The Live Revolution. It was recorded in a single session a year or two ago; kinda brings to mind early Incubus, but more funky/ska-y influences. Sounds a little too clean for me, their live recordings are better, so I've linked that instead.

Gonna run to check out my buddy's solo folk project at a bar downtown. He's got a kinda early-White Stripes DIY feel with a sorta freaky Grateful Dead sound. He can't really sing for shit though, so I might be laying down vocals for him at an upcoming session.

Wake up earlier than I'd like. I have a guest in my bed and she has to go be somewhere and I don't have work until 5. GUESS IT'S TIME FOR ALBUMS!

I cruise for some nice morning music, throw on Shut Down The Streets by AC Newman. It's a shame Newman's solo stuff hasn't quite caught on to the same amount of praise as his fellow bandmate Neko Case, despite that I far prefer his work. Shut Down The Streets is incandescent, the warm sound of a sunrise creeping through curtains, and so is the perfect music to rise to. I swim in it for a while as I microwave some leftover lasagna for breakfast. It's really fucking good lasagna.

Like fuck that was some really good lasagna. The variety of texture was masterful. Anyway, I feel like a fat cow, I throw together a protein shake and listen to Tank Battles: The Songs Of Hanns Eisler by Dagmar Krause, an album of covers of the prolific Marxist composer Hanns Eisler. Dagmar's voice is a cry in a dense fog, and when laid over Eisler's sharp, Germanic compositions the resulting effect is particularly noir.

Only Thursday pour moi, but weekends for me are my busiest workloads so I don't quite look forward to them as I once did x_x

Gonna listen to some Dagmar Krause album at some time today.

Wake up late. Stretch. I still have a pretzel from Booster Juice, and that approximates what I consider breakfast-appropriate food so I throw it in the microwave and throw on Exit! by Fire Orchestra.

It's a hyper jazz roller coaster, ripping its way around Bjork-ian crooning, waxing poetically about isolation and detachment. It feels like apocalypse on the Vegas strip, a wild flash of dying neon lights, the exasperated moans of the last casino house trumpeters, trampled beneath the ceaseless stampede of vice.

Monday, April the 21st, 2014.

Fucking Late

I wake up at 2pm. I go to work at 5. Stay there until closing time. Get home by midnight. Dead.

Finish reading Blueprints Of The Afterlife in silence. The novel is beginning to grow several cultures of mold, the cover has been ripped off, there are tears and dog ears across the pages, the pages are ruffled in a soggy dry, marked over as they are in bleeding ink of crude notes, dirt, stains of various sorts, the spine arches back like a drawn bow, posed to fire prose. Pass out once I'm done.

Didn't have a lot of time for music. At some point today I listened to some of Pains Of Being Pure At Heart's self-titled album on the bus. ...the other days will be more eventful, I promise.
