I must have joined BEA right after JMan left. The Lounge was closed. Ghosts were everywhere.

Based on people's characterizations of JMan, I really wasn't expecting much from his charts so never bothered taking a look. However, I love outsider art (there's a brilliant museum of outsider art in Baltimore). I know that irony was probably intended in describing JMan as an outsider artist, but after spending the last half hour enthralled by his overall chart, I'm not so sure. His purely clinical approach to rating and enjoying albums is fascinating, and his choices based on HIS predefined logic are in fact stellar. At any rate, for someone like me who approaches the enjoyment of music from a more visceral perspective, I found his chart fascinating.

Ant any rate, if JMan wins, Happymeal should extend the proverbial olive branch and welcome him back. 😈

Of course I voted for Tonality. JMan was either annoying, or the subject of adoration because of the involuntary hilariousness of some of his rants, whioch could have been fun back in the days sometimes, but certainly not in retrospect. I don't miss the constant provocation (not that he needed any tbh) that was going on in the hope of reading him lose control in those days.

Anyway...I voted for Tonality. Because as endearing as he could be, and as nice as people may have thought he was, JMan was not knowledgeable about what this site is about, but pretended he was, which I think was bad for the quality of the forums, comments and the site in general. He certainly has that right...but I do not believe that makes him anywhere close to the list of "best users ever". Not to mention the drama. What he added on the positive side was way overshadowed by the negative, and I think that anyone who is defeated by him in this tournament would be getting robbed.

IMO, of course.

I'm not going to claim that qualms regarding Jman's behavior are incorrect, but I actually enjoyed him to the degree that I still have some communication with him outside of BEA.

I never got involved with all the JMan internet/negative drama fodder. It wouldn't benefit me. Moving past that, JMan was a pretty decent user, if not a bit annoying. But that really isn't enough to convince me that Tonality is one of the most expressive and artistic users on this site. So my vote goes to Tonality.

I abstained as I don't know much about Tonality and JMan is JMan, he seems to be getting on well over on RYM so fair play to him for that I guess.

When alel took nominations for the BEUA for best post, about half of them involved JMan in some way. Love him or hate him, he was a force to be reckoned with on the forums. My response to JMan was amusement... with a hint of guilt. The tragedy of it all was that he did take himself very seriously and you might say that was even the problem. He chose to be here, though; that is, until he didn't.

But all of this is unfair to Tonality, who is a friendly and smart new user. It sucks that many of the votes for him are probably anti-JMan votes, but that is the nature of the beast.

Agree with Squishy 100 percent. JMan's posts were completely-accidental masterpieces. That being said, it wasn't a very positive atmosphere whenever the forums were JMan-centric: he often seemed to draw all the negative heat and ire from a lot of users (for reasons both duh! and dubious) and his posts and overall prescence didn't feel like they were being recieved the way he wanted them to be, so it was inevitable the JMan-dominated era wasn't going to last (ultimately for the better). It was a wild, meomorable time when he was (omni)present on the forums, but I wouldn't call it a very positive time for BEA in general. Although I know Geevy will never forget his special sugarplum.

Tonality seems allright, though haven't interacted with him much (like a lot of recently joined users), but his chart is definitely intriguing.

There was this one time at work where I had a customer who looked exactly like JMan and even when I found out he was severely mentally disabled and barely able to sign his own name or function in any meaningful capacity I still wasn't 100% convinced it wasn't JMan.

But now I don't think it was.
