One of those albums I love so much that I'm not entirely sure how to put it in to words. Many a late, lonely night was spent with Down Colorful Hill.

As has been said before, Medicine Bottle is probably one of the best songs of all time. The album as a whole is a masterpiece, with its only flaw being that it doesn't also have Katy Song on it 😜

Love love this album, the whole thing is great, but Medicine Bottle in particular is one of my all time favorite songs.

I don't know if this has been said, but listening to Kozelek on early Red House Painters, and THEN Benji is quite jarring.

yeah this is a slowcore staple if there ever was one, none of the other albums under the same moon quite have the slowly-burning-the-mattress-with-you-and-your-dead-lover-on-it sense of despair and desperation. Given with BEA it's hard to think anybody hasn't listened to this album (probably very late one night), so pardon the shameless promotion but it's best to look further down here, though few have this long-winded (in a good way) intensity.

Pretty hypnotic album. Quality Slowcore. I prefer Kozelek's Sun Kil Moon stuff more though.

Hehe.

Anyways, Medicine Bottle is one of the best songs ever but this album is a bit too inconsistent..Still my favourite of his though.

No but this album's pretty good. Dour, downtrodden, sad shit. If you're into that kinda thing okay here's a perfect album.

Don't get me wrong, he's really good. But this album isn't nearly as great as Ocean Beach or even Ghosts of The Great Highway. Benji was alright - at times. Songs For A Blue Guitar is cool. But he's so stuck in this same sad rut as a songwriter and his music never really diverges off into new and super interesting territory. Not that I can hear anyway. For me his main virtue is in directness and the honesty of his communication. It definitely sounds like he's really feeling what he is saying. But besides that, yeah, he's okay. Nothing amazing or awe-inspiring.
