So, it looks like the genres that are top voted for include IDM, Post-rock, and American Primitivism with 7, 6, and 5 votes respectively

The three tied with 4 include Country Blues, Stoner Rock (stoner metal), and Post-Punk.

I will (in about an hour) random between the 3 as to give a bit more time in case a tiebreaker happens.

EDIT: Alright, looks like stoner rock came out on top in result of waiting, but, to have a fifth one, I randomed between country blues and post - punk. It ended being country blues. Anyways, I'll message my associates to see the next course of action (most likely creating a schedule) .

IDM is unambiguously the winner, but there's a three way tie for 5th here so I'll wait another day and if the tie isn't broken by then, I'll random between the three.

After that, we'll create a schedule for the genres. I think 5 per vote might work out best because it gives a chance for new nominations to take place as well as more genres to come in next vote. I'll be thinking more about the plan today to see if some changes need to be made, but it looks good so far.

To make this more interesting, can a moderator please eliminate from THIS poll all genres that have received one or less votes. We will return to these genres at a later date. Thanks!

Also, in the future, it will probably be more engaging to limit the polls to five genres. For the first round, I just wanted to make sure that everyone who participated in the nomination process had one of their selections listed.

I voted for American Primitivism. John Fahey and Jack Rose and Robbie Basho and Sandy Bull and Leo Kottke and Sir Richard Bishop and Glenn Jones and James Blackshaw, hurray!

(note: I've listened to most of those, but not all of them. Just getting y'all excited for whenever we do do American Primitivism. Who is championing this genre? Mecca?)

Though country blues'll be great too. If it wins, as it looks to be doing, that is.

So... the blues are really a mix of far right Republicanism and Tumblr? This... doesn't actually sound exciting. I mean it could exciting to see how it turns out... still...

And where does the the color blue come into this? Does it actually have no relation to color and just so happens to have this name? Is it because tumblr's background is blue? Is it beca.... nevermind. All this could be answered when we giddy up on down there.

We'll go into much more depth later but you'd probably be surprised the relative variety of subject matters covered by the great deep blues artists. Satan, money, work, love, hate, oppression, death, coffee, sex, being an_outlaw, being on the run, murder, domestic abuse, Jesus, god, war, depression, loneliness and much more are subjects covered in the blues.

No.

We will go over this much more later. You'll be amazed (maybe) by the amount of variety there is in the deep country blues. Different eras, artists, and mostly regions play a huge part in its variety. It's be very very difficult to confuse Blind Willie McTell with Blind Lemon Jefferson and Blind Willie
Johnson (ezcwpt that they re all blind... Lots of blind dudes) or to confuse Memphis Minnie with Tommy Johnson with John Lee Hooker, etc.

I stupidly voted for country/rural blues. I should probably have voted for Emo. I'm really interested in learning more about emotive hardcore as well as the indie bands that sprang from it. Such a cool and interesting genre that, up until recently, I pretty much totally ignored or scoffed at without knowing really anything about it.

But yeah, I also love the blues and think that will be fun.

Post-rock and Ambient would be the ones I would work best in. Only one of those is listed here so I guess that is the only one I can help. 🤣

Dub, Punk and Shoegaze would all confuse me while something like 'Emo' probably means all those intelligent and obscure bands from 80s/90s rather than the ones which made "emo" big in 2005/2006.

Also there is a good reason Black Metal is "underrepresented". It's not pleasant to listen to for one.

Btw, there will be oppurtunities to add more genres! In fact, you can post in the original thread right now if you want, it'll be added to the nominees and then we'll get another vote in progress. We'll take the top 5 voted genres and do a thread for each one over the course of 1 - 2 month(s). How does that sound to everyone?

Also, if it takes longer, then that's fine! The main idea is to get quality threads for all the people searching for something! Also, I'd like to thank Repoman for following through with my request to create this thread!
