Pisses me off that it's gonna lose to this bunch of vaccuum cleaners.

Eh, Jape didn't really interest me at all, Stars of the Lid are in my overall. Pretty easy, but I do agree that there could have been better choices for the tourney.

Oh, come on guys. This is the favorite? This is the one you expect to win? Seriously?? What a tremendous waste of time! Single notes droning on and on for hours and hours and hours. I'm actually angry at myself for putting up with sitting through this. Every. Damn. Note.

The only thing it's good for is, if you're in a hurry, this music will actually slow down time. I got to work at 9:00. I've been here for six hours already and it's only 10:30.

Why'd they feel the need to make two CD's worth of this, when every track sounds pretty much the same? If you clipped 10 seconds out of the album, and moved it to any other part of the album, I wouldn't have noticed it. I had much more fun listening to this:

I was gonna vote Ritual but I've gained so much respect for Tired Sounds since hearing a lot more music like it and realizing just how good it is in comparisson ... vote to tired sounds

Haha, that was my initial thought. It's definitely not an album to listen to to get your adrenaline pumping. It's better for just relaxing and sinking into the music.

Just to clarify, my first listen to this was because of the tourney, so I'm glad it was nominated. Seeing it go far would be cool, but it winning is so predictable I'd be sad.

I'm sure I would have gotten around to this eventually without the tourney, but it gave me incentive to do so, and so I did. Who knows, I (and others) could have completely forgotten it existed without this tourney, so yay for Frogger.

Yeah, it seems like I underestimated it's popularity on the site, which has increased since it was nominated(who knows whether they're related or not). But yeah, users can vote as they wish, I may vote against it myself if it gets far enough into the tournament.

I totally understand this. It's definitely better to nominate albums in these tournaments that you feel passionate enough about to talk or write about comfortably - it's something I virtually always take into account these days - and your method for choosing an album was pretty identical to mine (and, I imagine, many others), although I did actually decide to leave out a few albums that I figured were already widely known and appreciated, for the sake of picking something that most people here wouldn't have heard previously. I just wish you'd have picked an album that wasn't known and loved by so many of us. It seems like a wasted opportunity to introduce people to something new.

But, as I said, it's a great record. Just one that I hope doesn't go very far in this particular tournament.

I see what you're saying, and for the most part I agree with it. Last year, Defago ran a similar tournament, and I nominated 2 albums that were lesser known(They were both outside the top 10,000 I believe). By the time that tournament started, I didn't have the same love for them that I did during nominations, and didn't feel too compelled to promote them. Then when this tournament rolled around I just said "Fuck it, I'll nominate the first eligible album in my chart, which happened to be this one. I basically wanted an album that I know I love and could easily promote when it comes across a difficult matchup. I completely see where your coming from though, and I have no qualms with users voting against it for a lesser known album. In fact, I'd love to see an unknown gem win this tournament, I think that'd make it a huge success. Users can vote as they wish, I just enjoy talking about a piece of music I love.

Only six more? Let's say two of those were coincidental, and nothing to do with its nomination in this tournament (and that's a flattering estimate, though if anybody wants to come forward and say that they listened to this album and then added it to their chart because it was nominated in this tournament then please feel free). But it's probably the most likely album to win this tournament, it's the highest ranked album in the tournament and was at the time of nominations, and the fact that it was nominated at all still rankles.

Apropos of very little, here are some album that sit just outside our Top 1500 at the moment: Wipers - Youth of America, Panda Bear - Tomboy, Sam Cooke - Live at the Harlem Square Club, Mission of Burma - Vs., Frank Sinatra - Frank Sinatra Sings for Only the Lonely, The Jesus Lizard - Goat, TLC - CrazySexyCool, Etta James - At Last, M83 - Saturdays = Youth, Grouper - Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill, etc.. Now, it seems to me that nominating these albums would give whoever nominated them a very good chance of going far in this tournament, but they aren't albums that people who love music and use sites such as this one wouldn't stumble across at some point anyway. They're highly acclaimed albums with big commercial and critical success or otherwise a huge online following, and The Tired Sounds of Stars of the Lid fits into that category for me. It gets enough love around the forums (and in other places) that it needn't have been nominated in this tournament, and as such it would be a shame to see it win.

But whatever, it's in the tournament now and it will no doubt go very far. It's a great album, and I'm glad lots of people like it. I'll continue to vote for it against albums I dislike, but will switch my vote as soon as it comes up against anything I even remotely enjoyed. If it wins this tournament it will be a huge shame. What I'd like to see is an unknown album, something that very few people here were previously familiar with, take this tournament by storm. It'll feel cheap and unjust if arguably the best-known album in the tournament (best-know on BEA, at any rate) goes on to knock out a host of lesser-known albums. That isn't what this tournament is for.
