Whoops! My bad. Fixed now.

I'd like to make a jazz chart at some point, too, but it's one of many projects I'm poring over at the moment. Maybe I should move it up the queue, since now everybody seems to think my jazz favorites are all like the Al Haig Trio and bossa nova. :P

Nah! Don't fight yourself, sp4cetiger! It's a battle you just can't win. Just embrace the smooth...

A lot of people say that and I have to admit, I don't really get it. I do have trouble comparing jazz albums to, say, rock, but no more so than I do comparing hip hop to rock or electronic to country or whatever. Ah well, so it goes.

I would poke fun at your taste in jazz, but I looked at your chart and... does Chicago even count?

Haha! I tend to think of Jazz as a world apart from the blues idiom and its descendants for some reason so the only stuff that I would even consider putting in my overall is stuff like The Mahavishnu Orchestra's Inner Mounting Flame or Birds of Fire. I really should create a Jazz chart now that I can make custom charts though. But my Jazz collection is completely BAWP city!!! 🤣

Btw, Chicago's not even really, officially in my chart - just my listening bin. But, I guess it could qualify as jazz fusion in a pinch I suppose. I really like their first two albums.

Wow. Elis Regina's voice complemented Jobim's musical style perfectly and every note seemed to flow organically from the next. Not only do I love the album, but this may have been a breakthrough for me.

On Mondays, I watch my son, and though I love him to death, I often find myself mentally and physically exhausted at the end of the day. When my wife got home from work yesterday, we had about an hour before a friend was coming over for dinner, so I told her I wanted to take 45 minutes to myself to wind down. I put on Elis & Tom and just laid in bed. Wow. Elis Regina's voice complemented Jobim's musical style perfectly and every note seemed to flow organically from the next. Not only do I love the album, but this may have been a breakthrough for me.

Elis & Tom is pleasant enough, but I really prefer the wild psychedelic ride of this Gong record. This if the first time hearing You after experiencing some earlier Gong records a few months ago.

This matchup is between two Brazilian Bossa Nova-ists, and a bunch of Anglo-French psychedelicians.

Elis Regina is considered the best female Brazilian vocalist ever, and that's not me saying that, that's several footnotes on Wikipedia. Antonio Carlos "Tom" Jobim was one of the inventors of the Bossa Nova style, and famous in the United States as the author of "The Girl from Ipanema".

In 1974 they got together and recorded and album called simply, Elis & Tom.

In 1967 a member of the Soft Machine named Daevid Allen--that's how he spells it--formed a psychedelic band called "Gong". The band made a bunch of albums, changed personnel, you know, like bands do. Then in 1973 they added guitarist Steve Hillage and began work on a trio of albums that would come to be known as the Radio Gnome Invisible Trilogy. Which are "Flying Teapot", "Angels Egg", and the album we are concerned with today:
