Grant Kirkhope is actually incredible, not only as a composer, but as a human being.

I usually start playing the game with in game music and if I think I know music that'd fit better, I remake the soundtrack. For example, I didn't like Hotline Miami's choice of music, so I put together basically a GTA radio station of music for it.

During multiplayer stuff (like Left 4 Dead or something) I just sort of listen to whatever. Think my first listen to Tycho's album this year was during L4D2 frankly.

I usually listen to electronic with more of a static beat, just to bring up the more tedious undertone of WoW. Anything over five minutes in length, or an entire album. For those two things, I often listen to Autechre or Boards of Canada. I don't limit myself to those two, but it would take a lot longer to name everything.

I only listen to music if I'm playing a non-story game, like a sports game or something, and in that case, I'll listen to whatever. But if I'm playing a serious game, I've gotta listen to the game.

I usually just listen to the video game's score. Pretty much what dragonballz up there said. The one time I can think of listening to something else is when I would play Flash games in which case I would listen to probably something I liked.

This isn't a topic I should be allowed to have a say in. However I do know lots more albums like 'Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven' if the first person to post is happy to hear more 😄

Depends what experience I'm looking for. If I'm looking for an alternative score I tend to look for jazz, classical, ambient, and drone. All of which do pretty well.

I've found Liquid Swords works great both for competitive FPSes like COD, any game I play on 3DS that isn't Mario (like Kid Icarus or Resident Evil) or for something more basic and cerebral like Sudoku or Picross that I play on my phone to kill time.

This may very well be the most versatile album ever for gaming. Or really, it isn't but it feels like it.

For those who are gamers here, which albums do you like to listen to while gaming?

I've found that Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven matches the mood of Half Life 2 and I always have it on while I play it.
