Still, as time goes by, DSOTM is growing in resonance for me. On the other end, OKC is sliding down. I can sleep without it. Plus, did anybody notice Thom Yorke's voice is slightly out of tune here and there on that album? No such problems since Autotune.

I am pretty sure Yorke said he sang every song differently on that album, so whatever sound he was making was intentional.

No, I didn't notice any out of tune vocals on this album, and I've listened to it a million times (warning: exaggeration) by now! If by "slightly" you use the term in a "pretty-much-perfect-but-they-could-be-even-more-perfect"-kind of way, then perhaps you're right, but only if you like voices to be more robotic.

Anyway, I'm kinda tired of both records by now. I'm not quite sure who deserves being higher on this site, but I think I slightly prefer OK Computer at this point. Slightly. I prefer "In Rainbows" to "OK Computer", while "Dark Side..." is Floyd's best, but still...

Since I joined this site (July last year) I've listened to OK Computer several times. Had never heard it before that. It's growing on me, but I still can't see why it holds the title of Best Of All Time Ever In The History Of Recorded Music.

Dark Side of the Moon hasn't gotten old after 40 years of being listened to. It was a huge leap forward in rock music composition. Just the intro to "Time" is better than anything on OK Computer.

Also, Dark Side of the Moon makes me want to hear more Floyd; OK Computer sounds OK, but doesn't push me to listen to more Radiohead.

Maybe I'd feel different about it if they'd named it Awesome Computer.

Being a long time fan of Pink Floyd, DSOTM was a total letdown. I found it over produced and lacking in the raw power of earlier Floyd. Try Celebration of the Comet: The Coming of Kohoutek if you can find it: an earlier version of Dark Side I really liked. OKC gave me chills the first time I heard it. Love it; one of my favorite albums even though I'm not a huge Radiohead fan.

Both albums are on another level to almost any other album ever released. Ok computer for me but both very special and I only listen to them on rare occasions and when I do give full attention. If you think there are hundreds of other albums better than fair enough but I can honestly say that these two and maybe a couple others only can make me feel like no other albums can.

Have had a curious relationship with both albums. For a long time I considered both as 'landmark' albums in my life, but at the same time, neither had really managed to retain my interest beyond maybe the first six months after discovering them. Can remember 'OK Computer' being the first album Q magazine ever gave five stars (fun fact - they gave Oasis' 'Be Here Now' five stars later the same year) and while I got a fuckton of enjoyment from it during 1997-98, the album failed to really retain my interest beyond that. 'Dark Side' was a great album to smoke spliffs to in college, and I can remember picking up other Floyd albums soon after ('Animals' is still an album I play a lot), but like 'OK Computer', it didn't end up having a lot of staying power.

That said, when it came to making my first chart on BEA, they both found their way in, though I soon had to acknowledge the fact that I never felt the need to revisit either anymore. Took me a while (and maybe half a dozen listens) to downgrade the albums from two 90's to the 75 and 70 that I now have them as.

Neither one deserves the title. I could name at least 100 albums better than either one. Between the two, though, I'd pick OK Computer. It's more vulnerable, less over-the-top, and gives off less of a "hey we tried really hard to make a masterpiece" vibe. I like DSOTM but tbh wouldn't be sad if I never heard it again.

Of course I respect those who feel both are rubbish or that there are a bunch of albums who deserve to be on that spot but if I understand correctly this is meant to be a discussion between them, I would try to avoid bringing in any other album as some have. Maybe that can be a different topic like "Disscussion on albums which should be #1 instead of OK/DSOM".

Anyway, back to topic, I like both a lot and I am not from either generation. Both were very important at that moment and will last forever in my heart and many people's. I choose Dark Side of the Moon but I can't say why; my skin just gets a little more goose bumps when I listen to it. Plus, I have to admit it, I consider Pink Floyd a better band than Radiohead and this, even if it's unfair as it is album not band choice, influences me on my choice too.

Quote:

Personally, I think Dark Side of the Moon is better at being acceptable to the most people, but the data clearly shows otherwise.

Not so clearly. Though OK is ranked #1 as best ever album, DSOM is the best ranked album, better than OK (92 to 91 out of 100).
