Anyone whose already sent a ballot who wants to send a new one, that's fine, just enter your name plus '2' at the end on the first page so I know which one is the new one.

If it doesn't let you do a second one let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Kinda feeling the same way. I have no idea what I submitted at this point, but I doubt it included William Onyeabor, and it'd kill me to leave him off

the 1970s poll is now open https://curtin.asia.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_2ifvZz1iycDsWMt

I have ballots from the following people

revolver94
Norman Bates
BasdeWit97
Mr Frogger
Dingerbell
Tonality
gussteivi
edubs
Secondsoul
MeccaLecca
creator
migglemo

and I'll be accepting ballots until probably 2 weeks time. It would be really awesome to get as many ballots as possible (we had a great amount for the 60s but it'd be cool to get even more) - it makes it more fun and it's more representative of the community. Don't get stressed out about making the 'perfect list' whatever you come up with is fine.

As I've said before please don't post your full list until after the presentation but I really encourage promoting some of your favourites, especially the ones you think people might forget.

I'm glad everyone enjoyed it, it was fun to put together. I don't think we can be too hard on each other; it's easy to forget songs (although there was one user who had half their ballot as Beatles songs smh) and what's here is okay (although I agree with Satie that Sinnerman should have been higher).

Skinny wrote:

If it isn't too much trouble, I'd be interested in seeing how a one-song-per-artist list would've looked (or two-songs-per-artist, if less than 100 artists were nominated, though I'd be genuinely shocked if that were the case), but I understand if you can't be bothered after having gone through all the balloting and presentation.

So if we did 1 song per artist the list would look like this (bearing in mind that the lower down you get here the less it means in terms of # of votes etc):

1. God Only Knows by The Beach Boys
2. Day In The Life by The Beatles
3. Gimme Shelter by The Rolling Stones
10. A Change Is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke
11. Space Oddity by David Bowie
I'd be happy to add pretty much any of these songs to one of my playlists, so nice results. I actually didn't save the list I submitted, but here are some favorites of mine that didn't make it:

A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall - Bob Dyan (his best!)
Proud Mary - Creedence Clearwater Revival
Stand - Sly and the Family Stone
Madam George - Van Morrison (though just about anything on Astral Weeks could go here)
Candy Says - Velvet Underground
The Happening - The Supremes
I Can’t Make It Alone - Dusty Springfield
Sunshine Superman - Donovan (a '60s song list without Donovan?!)
Mr. Tambourine Man - The Byrds (may be the only Dylan cover better than the original)
Pleasant Valley Sunday - The Monkees
Cathy's Clown - Everly Brothers (yeah, it's from the '60s)
Georgia on My Mind - Ray Charles
I'll Be Here in the Morning - Townes van Zandt
I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better - Byrds

Other notes:

- I love Nina Simone, but I prefer to listen to her in album format. It's great how her albums all feel like she's giving you a personal performance.
- "God Only Knows" is a bottom third song on Pet Sounds
- lack of Byrds is just dreadful
- also this:

meccalecca wrote:

...anyone who discredits the Beatles is a jackass.

Cheers, BEA.

Ooohhhhhhhh 😜 I actually not sure about this one. I liked pretty much all what is here. More picks by Laura Nyro, Scott Walker, MC5, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Byrds, Nico would have been cool. I can't remember what I had without making it again or if I submitted it in time.

Considering what was there it was a massive success. 😄 I mean there will be songs which get missed like in this one in the future ones. Sure they will be great songs and having 200 songs would be twice as good. Then again it is fun to say what could have been on it.

In regards to Nina and Etta, I think it's a matter of not having that one song that everyone will pick. I know Nina was on my list. God knows which song anymore, and Etta may have been too.

The lack of Byrds, Supremes and James Brown is saddening.

Also, I'd easily take Madame George over Cypress Ave and Sweet Thing

50.	Call Any Vegetable - The Mothers of Invention

some reflection:
- shoulda picked a different Beatles
- Tammys should've gone higher, as should have Ronettes and Roy Orbison
- I should have started listening to The Byrds (as I'm doing today - trying to wrap up their '60s discog this week) before even thinking of making this list. I am a sinner and deserve lashes.

some reflection on the wider list:
- same as everyone else, my only negative anticipation of the list (homogeneity and clustering around a few titans) was confirmed
- i was surprised by a decent enough number of the picks and the ordering to think this was highly successful
- i really would have liked to see more jazz on the whole
- Nina Simone should have beaten out the vast majority of the top tier picks. i get why my other picks that didn't make the list or were lower than i placed them were where they were, but y'all need some Nina if she's having that low of a placing on the list
- the list definitely had me flipping back to the songs and wanting to listen to them
- really looking forward to the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, and 10s versions of this

Can't argue with that.

I honestly have no idea what my list even looked like at this point.

I agree it'd be interesting to see what the results would look like with 1 song per artist. 2 artists consuming 1/5 of the list was expected but less than exciting
