Histoire De Melody Nelson by Serge Gainsbourg

Even though I understand barely any of these lyrics, I've looked at translations, and the lyrics are rather nice. And even without the comprehension, Gainsbourg manages to make the lyrics sound poetic; his hushed and soft vocals really wash over you with the subtle, gentle violins playing and the gritty blues-rock bass throughout the album - this is a really seducing album which almost makes you fall in love with Melody herself.

Amélie by Yann Tiersen

Did French homework to this and Melody Nelson. It feels right, you know. This has always felt like what it'd be like to absorb all the culture of Paris, all the touristy stuff that makes it so iconic - going to the Eiffel Tower, sailing down the Seine, going to expensive cafés and getting multiple expensive coffees, buying a bottle of red wine and a loaf of delicious bread and sitting down by the bank and having a picnic, and maybe there's a girl beside you to enjoy the idyllic scenery with. Yeah, lovely imagery and such. There's also pretty poignant moments in here too.

I'll be listening to a few albums later in the night and then I'll wrap this up.

Hole In The Heart by Ramleh

Listened to this last night. I didn't really know what power electronics was so I just went straight into it by listening to this short album. Was a really dense and creepy album, and it was enjoyable but a little monotonous. But yeah, I surprisingly enjoyed it as industrial is usually pretty tough for me.

This was lovely. Really warm dream pop that keeps me captivated throughout the whole lengthy 70m.

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart by The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart

From one twee shoegaze to another. I'm sure I've heard this near enough 100 times. It's my happy album. Obvious influences from The Field Mice and Black Tambourine, but it has its own really lovely vibe to it. Really catchy stuff throughout. I don't think I could ever properly showcase my love for this.

Wow, I like this a huge amount more than before. Very light and delicate twee shoegaze. I prefer this to the Complete Recordings compilation as I feel that falls short and leaves me beckoning for more. Recommend to any shoegaze or indie pop fans, it's a good gateway for both genres too I imagine as it's really easy, lovable stuff.

I'll definitely listen to this record, thanks Suede!

Veronica Falls by Veronica Falls

Pretty jangly twee pop. Ugh, I should have written about this when I first listened to it so that I could actually write about something slightly meaningful. It has a very demure and nostalgic feel to it, if I remember well. Kinda in the same vein as The Innocence Mission's Glow but a lot twee-er.

Melancholie by Coldworld

This was a first listen. Chilling atmospheric black metal almost like Ultima Thulée but at the same time completely different. Was very cold. I should probably check out TheStarsAreDeadNow.

Personal Best by Team Dresch

Second listen. Not much has changed of my opinion of this - incredibly solid riot grrrl, the lyrics are just "riot-y" enough without being in-your-face and preachy, and the music itself is very energetic and kinda raw. Yeah, I like it a lot for sure.

London Weekend by Another Sunny Day

One I've revisited many times. I'm loving it more than ever - it's got obvious Smiths influences but has a very different feel to that. Many songs are more twee than jangle pop, too, such as Anorak City and What's Happened To You My Dearest Friend, and even the jangle pop songs all have a huge twee feeling to them. Incredibly moving stuff across the board, infatuating.

Oh oh oh this was luurrrvely. Very pretty textures, and she has such an adorable voice. Lovely transcendent gazey feel to it all. Will revisit.

Cults by Cults

Just finishing this up. It's nice enough but I didn't get much from it, they seem like they can't quite decide where they're sat, so it's almost like an awkward amalgamation of twee pop, dream pop, and indie rock that kinda should work but doesn't in their case. Anyway, it was pleasant throughout and I had no issues with what was going on, it just didn't feel too natural.

Down Colorful Hill by Red House Painters

And I do like it a lot, with every heart-wrenching stretched vocal Kozelek delivers, however I feel there's not really many very strong moments here, I love the title track but that's about the only track I love - I won't deny that the other 3 tracks in the first four are also incredibly moving, however I just don't feel captivated. It's great still, but just doesn't have that edge that Rollercoaster does. Maybe it's the fact it ends on Lord Kill The Pain and Michael.

Here's one I have mad love for. Songs about love seen through the eyes of someone with the mentality of a 12-year-old, it's almost the most realistic portrayal of cuteness ever. Picnics and cuddling are to be expected in the lyrical content, with sweet vocals that have a huge sense of joy covered all over them, like listening to the mouth of love in itself. It has such a lovely garage rock edge that's never too full-on, but the influence is there which gives it a very energetic and an even more fun sound. My only problem with this one is the fact that it's hard to tell one song from the other, since they're so damn similar. Despite that, I love love love it.

Zentropy by Frankie Cosmos

After being dissatisfied by the lack of smiles from the previous album I thought "hey I need to listen to more 2014 albums" then "hey I should listen to some more twee pop" and so now the smiles are back. This was so endearing - Frankie's little cutesy vocals that pair so well with the lo-fi, stripped down guitars to create an amazingly fun, affectionate sound. Yep, I liked it a lot.

Get Olde / Second Wind by Crying

I was torn up whether to listen to the Get Olde EP or the full album, but a few songs in I decided the whole album was the best course of action. This power-pop tinged twee pop/chiptune fusion works so. Damn. Well. Incredibly energetic and (fuck how many times am I going to use this word) cute stuff going on, vibrant sounds and textures flying all over the place - yeah, another one I'll definitely be coming back to soon.

Odessey And Oracle by The Zombies

Peeps in the Skype chat already know my thoughts on Care of Cell 44 and basically the entire album. I love happy music, it's one of the greatest things in the universe. And you know what, this is happy. Incredibly happy. I should love it, right? Nah, it's boring, I was left completely emotionless after it. I don't know what didn't click here - maybe it's the fact the vocals feel so fake, insincere, lifeless, I could go on - there's just something in the harmonies and the instrumentation that feels like they're trying to get the emotion of happiness out and what's actually happening is just a huge lack of warmth. The lyrics are nice enough for sure, but what good's a lyric that feels so insincere. Probably the album that describes the word "indifferent" the best for me.

A Piece Of Strange by CunninLynguists

Just finishing this one up, and wow it's amazing. Incredible beats surround a raw, unpolished atmosphere coming from both the hugely inspired vocals and the sharp percussion. Feels so tightly wrapped together and really cohesive, I shall be coming back to this one in the future for sure.
