Listening to music is pretty much all I do. For every second of the day, if I don't have to use my ears for anything else, I literally just use them for music.

Update: I scaled back to 1-4 new albums a day, sometimes I'll hit 5.

Sometimes during school I'll get one listened to. Usually when doing (home)work, I'll listen to one (today, I'll hit two or more!). Before I go to sleep, I'll listen to as many as need be, usually two.

For the past few days, as eyezayzay said, I've been talking to the BEA peeps, so the nighttime listening has ceased for the time being.

That's half the reason I'm constantly displeased/reworking my chart. It might never be finished. I seem to be remarkably talented at wasting time, so I never have enough left to balance all my hobbies. It's no secret that I take long, sudden breaks from BEA. This is because it's not really worth my time so much. I go through phases like a teenager. Sometimes I'll have a month's stretch where I prioritise music, sometimes I'll suddenly have the impulse to watch lots of movies. But honestly I don't think I've ever been at a point where I was listening to a new album every day. I get stuck on albums. When I find one I think I might love, I drown myself in it for days. New music is constantly competing with old favourites for my attention. I just have to deal with the fact that I'll never be spectacularly well-listened.

Your thoughts and music listening habits are so similar to mine's. 😄

Though I don't need long and sudden breaks from BEA, I often don't have time or opportunity to listen to many albums or just share my thoughts about albums in comments here in BEA. On workdays I usually listen to only songs on my way to work or one album in the evening. Sometimes I listen to music at my workplace, but I only listen to albums I already know, because when I have to concentrate on working I can't concentrate on another thing which is new to me.
I like to discover a new album when I'm at home, lying in my bed and pay attention carefully to the music itself. I also like to read the lyrics, but it also takes several listens to read it, listen to it, understand it (sometimes translate it) and get into it.
Then, when an album is already familiar to me, I can listen to it while I do housework, I go for a walk etc.

But, similar to Alex, I couldn't listen to new albums every day, I rather stuck to albums. I get into one album and listen to it every day for a week. In other cases, I also have phases, sometimes am so hungry for new music that I can listen to eight albums a day, but this only happens on weekends. And I know that when I listen to many albums a day then after a couple of days I tend to forget what I listened to, I only remember which albums was great/good/average/bad. So yeah I'm a slow person who forgets things.

It may sound silly but sometimes I don't know what to listen to, because I can't decide what to choose, the variety of music is endless so sometimes I keep thinking so much what to choose that I end up listening to nothing.
Even as someone who loves well-written lyrics, I still don't think it's always crucial to hear an album multiple times before you can appreciate it. Sometimes my experience with an album is dominated by the rhythm and flow of the words more than their meaning (this is often the case with hip-hop), so a first listen can lead to an experience much like the tenth listen. Even with an artist like Bob Dylan, who usually does take multiple listens for me to fully appreciate, I still wouldn't say that I need to know the lyrics by heart. In fact, by the time I can recite the lyrics from memory, an album has probably lost a lot of its original luster.

I think thats maybe why I like pop so much. Im able to remember their lyrics much faster. Hear Tswift twice and im good for karaoke.

And then it varies in the evening...lately I've been on Skype with the BEA crew so I haven't had time to listen to music. 😜

I still have a giant queue of albums I'd like to check out...reaching upwards of 200. O_O

My boss let's us listen to music at work, so I typically listen for the better part of my eight hour shift. That allows to me listen to at least a dozen "new" albums a week and a dozen I've been listening to for quite some time. I usually listen to an album two or three times via the internet before deciding if it's something I need to pick up at the record store. I don't put albums on my "greatest albums" chart unless I've listened to the album at least half a dozen times.

When judging an album you don't need to know the names of every song, or how the bass line sounds on the third track, you just need to see how it makes you feel.

I don't know about that, I feel like I need to know the words of each song on the album before I really "know" it, but I guess you do what you need to in order to listen to a lot of music. There are times when I listen to an album and get really excited about it and then come back the next morning and wonder what I loved so much about it.

Summer and Winter breaks are acquisition mode where I get a ton of music together and listen to nearly all of it. I then spend the other eight months of the year occasionally acquiring music, listening and re-listening to diehard favorites and up-and-comers in my musical world, and trying to form networks out from those inspiring epicenters. It leads to a music listening routine that ebbs and flows a lot but allows for the rapidfire 10 new albums a day weeks to yield maybe a handful of albums worth exploring more that then get a LOT of focus during the other months of the year when I feel more contemplative and willing to sit down and just watch a visualizer or something for an hour late at night.

In general I've heard an album 5+ times before getting on my overall chart.
My music listening schedule is two albums per day. One I've never heard and one re-listen to an album I'd heard before. I find this to be a decent amount of music per day (hour and a half, not bad) while also maintaining a good routine of new music.

I get a bit obsessed with insuring I have appreciated and delved into an album sufficiently enough in order to move on. I'm a slow listener, which means I am envious of the other guys on here who listen to mountains of new findings a day. I usually feel satisfied once I have a fair idea of the track order and know the pattern of the instrumentation, and around 50% of the lyrics. It's not an exact science. But it often takes around 8 listens.

Then again some albums I'm not keen on for around 10 listens - for example Born To Run or Rumours, then given a break and a revisit they become brilliant.

I haven't listened to nearly as much as most BEA members and probably never will.

If I find a new album I like I'll listen to barely anything but for while, can't get my head round how you could hear an amazing album then leave it for months before listening again. Surely if you love the sound of an album you want to listen to it again soon, since you enjoyed the experience?

I guess if I feel like, on first listen, that I've understood everything the album has to offer and still enjoy it thoroughly, then I don't see much need to try and go out of my way to enjoy it more. I only relisten to an album very soon after if I thought I didn't listen close enough first time through, and it likely needed more attention.

I hate to compare the two, but if I see a great film, I don't feel the rush to watch it again, maybe because I want to isolate that moment as how I want to remember experiencing it. For me, it's similar with albums. Not always, I mean I binged on Trouble Will Find Me when it came out, but often.
also, when i was in college, i found that my grades went up the more i listened to music, as well as the more i went out drinking. Unfortunately, i didn't figure this out until after my 4th year of college, but i had my best grades that 5th year, almost making the dean's list in my final semester. Too bad i didn't figure this out from the beginning or i could've earned a 4.00 passing out at the clubs every night for 5 years.

It's not a race, it's a hobby. You might not worry so much about the end if you try to focus on how much fun it is getting there.
