I thought for sure I was gonna hate Salad Days by Mac Demarco cause my ignorant ass just heard a rip off of "Picture Book" on the title track.

Because my most favorite singer James Otto was a right up out of no where singer for me, I fell for each of his albums on my first listen of them. The first one that I heard was his second album named Sunset Man like a week before it hit the stores. I had already fallen for "Just Got Started Lovin' You" thanks to how much time it was given on the radio, so I decided to go deeper to see if there was anything else there (I can't count the number of times that I have felt like the only person who did). I never expected to find as much as I found. 😄 😄 😄

P.S. If my memory serves me right, "Dam* Right" was the next song that I heard through the Part 5 Muzik Mafia TV clip over at the CMT website. After hearing James sing that song, I knew that I had gone to the right person. 😄 😄 😄

Pulp's "Different Class". It's different to the music I tend to like and I absolutely loved it on the first listen. And it didn't deceive me on my second listen.

For me it often happens where I got on the wrong foot with an artist, usually because I listened first to its most acclaimed album and didn't like it and am later surprised to enjoy another album that much.
This happened for instance with Fear of Music by the Talking Heads, The Royal Scam by Steely Dan or The Queen is Dead by The Smiths.
Also surprised how much I enjoyed Bob Marley & the Wailers 70s albums, didn't think any reggae was for me outside of Toots and the Maytals.

That being said the biggest recent surprise is how much I enjoy all the PC Music outputs :
Started with SOPHIE with songs like Bipp and Lemonade, which was still ok because it kinda had hints of grime or UK garage.

This sounded like a cool idea–i.e. black metal plus bluegrass. And wow. It's like nothing I've ever heard. It ended up as my third favorite of 2014. Definitely one of the most underrated album of the decade.

When my most favorite singer James Otto released his first album named Days Of Our Lives back in 2004, I was still hung up on another male in country music, so back then I never thought that I would be into James. Then came the second album from James named Sunset Man and then I was hooked. 😄 😄 😄
