Ghost has been on autopilot for years now. Last album that was even remotely indicative of his idiosyncratic abilities was Wizard of Poetry. He's attracting excellent producers, but his rapping is very middle of the road. Sad, really.

Agreed, I was also very disappointed. Hopefully the instrumental version will be better.

I expected the Kendrick Lamar album to be better. King Kunta is a jam though.

i'm still not sure if i love the new Kendrick or not, it really depends on the day

but yeah, Vulnicura is easily the most disappointing album of 2015

Agree with this - both of their latest releases are growers, but still fall short of most of their earlier albums.

The Courtney Barnett album has grown on me a lot too, although I find that it kind of trails off in the 2nd half by being a little too samey.

Yeah, I totally agree on both albums. That Belle & Sebastian album is just perfect for the car. Just a fun, bouncy record that cheers me up even in Chicago traffic.

i was in the same mindset for the new b&s as i was the new modest mouse -- lowered expectations made them more palatable.

It's truly a nothing of an album unfortunately. It's just noisy. They lost all of the liveliness and emotion of their first album, which I'm with you, is quite good. I just have no desire to go back to listening to this a second time... even at it's 30-minute clock in time, it gets super tiresome to listen to. It also lacks any innovation whatsoever.

I actually own one of the few 7" copies of 'Get Off' from their debut, which was quite graciously given to me by Polaris. Which is kinda cool.

That's a botched quote, but it gets the gist. I'm in the same boat. While I didn't think it was bad by any means, I just don't love it 😕 Nor do I think it'll even be in my top 100 by the end of the year. Same with the new Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Both were just incredibly average for me.

I'm also going to add Metz II and the new Nosaj Thing to my biggest disappointments of the year. Both literally sounded like leftover material from their previous efforts.

i mostly see "we were dead" as following the template set in "good news". sure, they altered their sound a little, and marr had some input, but i don't see those two albums too dissimilar, and i definitely think they're quite alike when compared to "moon & antarctica".

to their credit (?), the new album doesn't sound a lot like those other two. However, i'm still not fully sold on all of the studio effects on this new one. but it's good enough on its own merits.

There's nothing I've been massively disappointed by, but I certainly expected to enjoy releases from Courtney Barnett, Nicolas Jaar, Dawn Richard, Sleater-Kinney, Screaming Females, Steve Earle, and Red Pill (among others) more than I do. Even though they're old favourites, I wasn't expecting great things from the likes of Ghostface or Belle & Seb, so I can't really call them disappointments. There are some albums I've seen hyped around here for which I had pretty high hopes that weren't met, but I can't really say I'm overly disappointed by artists I was previously unfamiliar with. On the whole, this has been a year of very pleasant surprises and albums actually living up to my expectations (or surpassing them). 2015 has been great.

You really think that "we were dead" was trying to replicate "Good News"? Now I don't like We Were Dead as much as the next guy, but it sounds nothing lie their previous album. "Good New" still retained that rough-around-the-edges quality that was present in their earlier work, especially in tracks like Dancehall where they gave no fucks. "We Were Dead" sounds like an attempt to sound more polished, and more dance friendly in tracks like Dashboard, which they carried on in their new release. But I certainly don't think they were trying to replicate "Good News": an album that really doesn't sound like anything else they've done, due to it's mish mash style.

Thanks for your input on that Bjork album too. I was wondering if I just hadn't given it enough spins so that helps.
