Not sure why QuantServe is being flagged up like that. It's not dangerous in any way and has been on BEA for several years. QuantServe is just a way for BEA to independently measure audience demographics without sharing or collecting any personally identifiable information. Puncture Repair is right, it's similar to Google Analytics e.g. nobody knows Joe Bloggs has visited, but just somebody using Firefox from Canada. The aggregate information helps to make decisions about which browsers to support, which pages are popular on BEA (& which are not), & where to focus development effort (e.g. whether to drop support for IE7 because nobody now uses it etc).

Unless it's deeply hidden somewhere (I haven't found it, but it's possible) the Spyware is not on my computer - my anti-virus blocking it is one more clue to this, I should think. Another possible clue is that it appears only on BEA and not any other site I visit.

These things do tend to get extremely well hidden in folders, usually the folders are ones that are not even visible unless turned on by the administrator, they get hidden very deeply. I'm just guessing it may be on the computer somewhere as my anti-virus is finding no mention of quantcast (although I'm not sure how good mine is admittedly, though it did find some trojans awhile back that I let in...), it might be worth going into cookies in Chrome settings and checking out if there's anything unusual in there.

Cheers for the clarification. Although I must say it does look like Quantserve makes the info it gathers available for other uses...

The Guardian wrote:

Is the data sold to third parties?
In its privacy policy, Quantcast says it may share log data and aggregated information with third parties. These include:
- companies employed to support Quantcast services.
- companies that provide delivery and measurement of ad campaigns.

This data would be used for such things as industry analysis and targeting adverts.

(emphasis mine)

Other sites also state that the data collected is used for commercial purposes.

I don't know if AM is aware of this, but I'm not particularly happy about this, whoever might have implemented this spyware; and also I'm not particularly happy that I had to discover this accidentally (thank you anti-virus!).

What's everybody position on this?

(I haven't spoken to AM, this is just my two cents to possibly clear things up before he replies)

My understanding is that Quantserve is similar to Google Analytics, in that it records various pieces of information for everyone that visits. This will be information like what country a user is from, what web browser they are using, what device, or what website redirected a user to BEA. Many websites do this, not to steal information but to gather general data that helps the admin better understand the website's demographic and how it can be improved.

https://www.quantcast.com/

Different anti-viruses are likely more sensitive about this than others, and chances are yours works harder to prevent any of your data being collected, so it's seeing the plugin on BEA and bringing it up as a red flag.

One question is left then: how come the Quantserve tracking code is present on BEA? Was it implemented by you, AM? Did it just hack the site? Can we turn it off? EDIT: just checked and Quantserve is not installed on my Chrome version and it's not in my plugins. It's on BEA.

When I open the notifications journal from my antivirus, that's the type of notification I get:

Site Web dangereux http://pixel.quantserve.com/pixel;r=161149914;a=p-87d9FeOU6dDKM;fpan=0;fpa=P0-208631687-13 88828430390;ns=0;ce=1;cm=;je=1;sr=1680x1050x24;enc=n;dst=1;et=1429961438160;tzo=-120;ref=h ttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.besteveralbums.com%2FphpBB2%2Findex.php;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.besteveralbum s.com%2FphpBB2%2Findex.php;ogl= bloqué

I get one of those each time I go on a BEA page.

EDIT: apparently Quantserve is a tracker/spyware my antivirus doesn't agree to. Problem solved?

Hello! I've been having these weird messages from my anti-virus protection:

http://www.mediafire.com/view/08boyowyrn2z81a/Capturedecran.jpg

Notice the warning message on the bottom right.

It happens everytime I go on a new page on BEA (even once I'll have submitted this message, for instance), and no other site.

I'm using Chrome. (EDIT: just checked, same thing happens with Firefox and Explorer - not a browser issue then).

Of course it could just be a glitch in my anti-virus were it to have taken a strong disliking to BEA, but I just thought I should warn y'all.
