I always go for a artists top rated album for an entry point. Though I'll admit that might not work with all artists.

Has anyone thought of compiling a list of albums that would be good 'entry points' for an artist...For example....say a friend who wants to start listening to the Beastie Boys and has never really heard any of there stuff - I'd personally recommend Ill Communication as a good entry point album...followed by Pauls Boutique.
Or if the same friend wanted to get into Tom Waits - i'd suggest The Heart of Sat Night. They might not be the top album in the 'best ever chart' but they are good starting points for new listeners....Any thoughts?
