To be quite honest I always found Charlie's occasionall trolling and lack-of-filter responses rather harmless, but admittedly he has a tendancy to say things without at all thinking how other people may be affected by it, so those who did get upset by some of the things he posted here or elsewhere it's definitely understandable, but I don't think he's out to intentionally bully anyone (except for those that make movie lists :wink:). JMan in all honesty too I found pretty harmless and forgiveable, it was often just J-guy himself who blew minor squabbles beyond all extremes.

I'm not on Skype so i don't know about such conversations, anyway Applerill / Charlie seems cool to me: funny and/or interesting, when he doesn't want just to be a troll. And I also like his unusual taste in music.
While I haven't seen anything too exciting or interesting posted or said by Jman.
So my vote goes to Applerill.

I often feel sympathy or kinship with stuff and people that gets battered by very serious teenagers on the internet, so I should like both JMan and Applerill. And I do. JMan is not so bad, but he doesn't function on BEA's forums; JMan is too different from this site's mainstream (i.e. very serious indie-pop-obsessed teenagers who aren't exactly into conceived criteria for assessing music or avoiding f-bombs) for it to make sense for him to choose to spend time here. Having people reacting like "wtf dude" to something you say can be healthy, but receiveing no other responses than "wtf dude" to everything you say is probably not so healthy, or a striking example of meaningful communication. I'm glad he decided to leave, as his presence here was genuinely sad for everyone involved; I sincerely hope he finds more suitable company in the future. As for Applerill, I find him to be a very likable user, which makes me surprised to see some of these reactions (though I choose not to question the validity of users feeling hurt by his presence); I find him to be one of the most interesting posters on the site, and since I can only vote based on what I know, he qualmlessly gets my vote

To be perfectly honest, there have been times where Applerill has gotten a little obnoxious with his over-exaggerated (and at times, I believe to be, disingenuous) personality, either here or in Skype.

That being said, he's also been pretty entertaining at times, I respect his ability (assuming it's genuine and not an attempt to be "ironic") to see value in music that many people believe to be worthless. He's also recommended me some pretty sweet albums.

JMan, on the other hand, while entertaining at times, polluted the forums with worthless threads that he would get pissy about when others attempted to take the somewhere that would be at least semi-worthwhile. He was stubborn, virtually impossible to deal with at times, and overall a very negative presence on the forums, and with his drastically melodramatic departure from here, it just makes this vote that much easier, and that's to Charlie without hesitation.

If so, then I think it's important to realize that, like Skinny taught me years ago, I rate charts based on their utility to me and the utility. When I give a Beatles/Radiohead/Beatles chart a 25/100, I don't mean anything personal against them. But it simply wouldn't be fair to give them the same rating I'd give DBZ or Squishy, because the charts often don't really have anything special to offer.

I know the character can sometimes seem much, but I feel like he's come a long way and I can appreciate his eclectic tastes in music at the least.

I think JMan was the only other one on the site who checked out the wonderful metal/math rock band 100 Onces I was plugging, but that was about our only interaction.

JMan was alright for the site but between the "gorilla" thing, the "homoSEXUALS" thing, the "my mom" thing, the "art" thing, the genre confusion, the genre extravaganza confusion, and the general lack of reading/thinking before posting, I don't think he's got my vote.

I don't think he's dumb either. His posts are sort of like the music of a tone deaf person. He can write complex melodies well enough, but seems to have no sense of what they sound like to other people.

I have to say I almost feel like retracting and apologizing for any statement made venting some minor frustrations about a particular user in one of these matches; not that honesty can't be good and healthy when needed, but this rather depressing-at-times thread is revealing the ugly side of these popularity contests. I guess the only thing to say here about Applerill and JMan is (as maddening as they can be (and I guess in the latter's case, was) at times) that they are more complicated than they're often given credit for, as is every user, and especially cause we're only interacting with them in an anonymous, non-physical form even in more intimate forums like Skype, we don't really get the full gist of who they actually are; and since these matches often seem to elicit more knee-jerk reactions (be it in a positive or negative light) rather than contemplative, multi-dimensional responses based on the posts at least, they just don't seem to be encouraging perspective or looking at the actual human being behind each post at all- though I do agree with Tekin in that there doesn't seem to be a point in deciding to vote for users (if one is actually voting) for this specific tournament beyond what their BEA persona brings to the website in particular.

But all that's just a singular, subjective opinion. Sorry for the sermon, this ain't church. Love you all.

P.S I do have to say for a final note I admire Applerill for both acknowledging and taking the criticism in stride like an adult, whether or not one agrees with what he had to say.
