Like I'd say this is approximately a good 2 cm3 of perspiration and I've only been here for 45 seconds. The ramen is getting cold. GAH I'm doing all this wrong. Wow the album's gotten more upbeat now, and... no this is not the time for dancing I'm already sweating enough. 3 cm3? Geez... This is nothing like Let's Have a Kiki. I should've just played it safe and put on Generation Terrorists. I'm sorry Kiki! No snap out of hit. Just wait till he hears the slow crooning of "You're My Baby"... I hope he doesn't get the wrong idea. I just want a romantic dinner over some noodles and... well, I suppose we see where the night takes us. Looks like I'm at 4 cm3 now. Should probably change shirts...

FUCK THAT WAS A DOORBELL NOPE NOPE NOT READY. TO THE PANTRY.

It's dark in here. And I can still hear the Barry White album. Whoa this next track is groovy. Does anyone still say groovy? I wonder if Kiki will think it's weird that I still say groovy... THE DOORBELL WENT OFF AGAIN. Is it... is it raining? No no no ok I gotta get to the door before... no wait my shirt! 4 cm3! There's no time, no time....

I open the door to find him soaked from the raging storm above, but he sees only the one within my heart, and I see only him. I silently invite him into my home while the sly funk of "Never, Never Gonna Give You Up" finds itself in full swing. I see Kiki tapping his toe and that makes me smile. We both find our seats at the dinner table. I blush when he complements my cooking. I reach for the poptarts I have prepared for desert only to find Kiki doing the same. Our hands meet across the table as Barry calmly withdraws his delicate croon. Silence takes hold of the room. Neither of us notice. And as my gaze meet his, in a tacit embrace of the soul, our eyes lock.

The album has ended, but the night has just begun.

To all my friends in this community, know that your objections are heard. Truly the impact of Strangers From The Universe on your children, and likely on their children, is tantamount only to the impact that the pro Thinking Fellers Union lobby has on our local economy. But no matter how many times they broadcast the odd wobbly (yet strangely appealing) falsetto in the back of "My Pal the Tortoise" as their propaganda jingle, we know that you find yourselves with an album that may as well be nothing but the nonsense dissonance of "Pull My Pants Up Tight", but much like how this album fades into a quiet departure by it's second half into something of a melancholy Eno-inflected Polvo, the city council hopes to quell your displeasures by announcing that this album will only be sold where light bulbs are sold, allowing it perfect camouflage from the wandering eyes of the youth who may wish to purchase and god forbid listen to the thing. This whole ordeal has had us begin to attempt to have every noisy artsy indie rock album to be repainted into appliance cover art. Children never set foot into hardware stores and currently this is our only hope for preserving the sanctity of non-alternative upbringing. So I insist you calm the unruly nature of your protest, and focus your efforts onto a far more present task, that of lobbying the redesign of the cover art of Unwound's Repetition to look just like a wrench and some bolts. Or maybe like a stack of bricks. Just keep it away from the kids!

Ghana? I mean, I was told that curtain number 3 contained an exotic vacation but... Ghana? I hope I packed enough sunscreen. At least the children seem excited, of course when are they not. Ugh I could use a little less excitement in my life to be perfectly honest...

First night here and it is hot as hades. The hotel seems nice and gentrified, though there doesn't seem to be a Denny's in sight. To make matters worse, I told my husband to bring my beloved Barbara CDs and he only brought her Superman era. Seems the kids are getting restless again. I don't trust this country, but hubby wants to take everyone out shouting something about "getting our money's worth". Not even gonna bother telling him this was a free vacation.

And here we find ourselves in what appears to be... a nightclub? Gosh I hope the kids aren't... my my what is this lovely soun- I mean, what is that racket? It's oddly soothing if I am to be totally honest with myself and.... is that my toe tapping?

I heard someone nearby say "Mee Bee". Either that is the name of the song this funny Ghana man is playing or he's ordering another strange drink. Wait is that my son drinking one of those- ...oh my I haven't danced since high school! Am I? Am I having fun? Oh my those whistles and that building percussion! I just must move. Josh Groban never had this effect on me. How long has this kind of music been just on the outskirts of my existence? I do hope he plays more.

I don't know how many songs I've danced to so far, the club seems to be filtering out. I think my husband said something about taking the kids back but... Hedzoleh! Apprently this is the name of the song and that of the performer and my goodness these myriad drums are... wait did this Hedzoleh just look at me? I do seem to be the last one here. There are no clocks in here and frankly I wouldn't care if there were. I haven't had this much fun since... ever. I've been told this next song is called Hearts Ne Kotoko, and oh he's pulled out an electric guitar and, this is... funky! Ah and whistles and cymbals to complement the whole thing. This finger work is marvelous. Mmm.

Mo Osu Obu Naa comes to a close and I am a changed woman. Closing off the track with a light vibrato atop a steady clunking rhythm and some subtle guitar repetitions, it somehow feels like pure magic. Hezoleh comes down to me and thanks me in his accented English for staying for his whole set. I tell him I've never known such joy. Silently he takes my hand and begins whistling the melody to "Rekpete". Husband? What husband. I know who I'm going home with tonight.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Oh wait it's a band not a person... ah well the story stands, and the music remains heavenly

Africa Must Be Free By 1983 by Hugh Mundell

The boy was 16 when he made this (what I can only perceive to be a) masterpiece. His voice is definitely immature but there's a something about the way he goes about these political anthems (I'm sure in part helped by riddims from the one and only Augustus Pablo) that make it all feel like an unexpectedly mature cohesive whole, even if there is a sense of childlike hope that goes along with it. Honestly considering it for my chart.

Great LP this, Gabe. The accompanying dub's a gem too. Irie.

Third Side Of Tape by Lil Ugly Mane

So far sounds like a really immersive plunderphonic, industrial hip-hop instrumental thing going on (with some glitch and noise), though if I am to believe reviews I can expect punk, black metal, and a plethora of other genres later on. On track 2 and I'm starting to feel like I'm listening to Swans taking a stab at instrumental hip-hop. Excited to see how this plays out

These meat sacks are certainly of a strange disposition. When they flap their meat holes and blow air through them, it makes the most curious sounds; they call is "music", and I have been growing increasingly interested in this phenomenon. This little disc supposedly has recorded on it a great deal of "music" from one particular meat sack (believed to be female). The first section found here has her blowing through her meat hole in front of a selection of wooden machines with strings. It all happens very slowly and fills me with a sense of, perhaps, longing? I hesitate to say that a meat sack can fill me with a feeling of anything but truly this "music" phenomenon is fascinating. I find myself excited for the development of this "music" disc.

Oh my! When the meat sacks hit the metal over the wooden boxes, it makes the most wonderful noise! When this meat sack (now believed to be referred to as "Julia") blows out the air (in a manner that I believe the meat sacks call "singing") it complements the wooden box sounds very nicely and... oh my it seems I hear small circles of metal being hit here? Louder and louder, and faster, and OH MY WHAT IS THIS WONDERFUL NOISE. I am told it is called "Maxim's I" and I am truly astounded by what meat can do. This is some very talented meat and let the record show that we could learn much from it. My exoskeleton is tingling with excitement.

The disc of meat music has ended and I crave more. I will bring this back to my home planet and perhaps we too can bang on metal strings and blow through artificial meat holes and make our own "music". If it is anything like that which I have been given by this "Julia", I do believe we will have advanced greatly as a species.

Sometime in between the lackluster overtly stylized "space western" patchwork and the hackneyed realization of superpowered hedonism and the endorsement thereof, divisive filmmaker/cult leader Joss Whedon took a brief departure into the realm of (quasi) musical theater, or so he would have you believe. Drawing attention to his project via an ostentatiously star-studded lineup and capitalization on the gimmickry present in a divisive writer's strike present at the time, Whedon wheeled his voracious followers and an arguably larger team of converts into the "Cult of Whedon", as well as myself, though to be fair I was getting paid for the ordeal. Truly this lackluster affair will (and has) appeal to the technological (and increasingly unaware) millennial population, but to those of us dedicated to a rich history of musical theater and the cultural implications thereof, this meager approach to (if not appropriation of) the culture of musical theater (which plants it in a nice package for the short-attentioned 20-somthings who will likely be consuming it ad nauseam), it comes across as trite at best. Redemption is not entirely without presence, as in the face of lackluster numbers that feel the product the the "rich history" of the past 5 years or so of popular culture, the individual performers in the piece show an admittedly great deal of promise, with the notable exception of this Neil Patrick Harris fellow, who I do not hesitate to say will likely be experiencing a swift end to his (what I infer to be brief) career in the art world. I truly despair for the future of American youth, and even moreso, for the future of the theater if it is to be placed in their hands. Art has suffered a major blow this day, and I hasten to say it shan't likely ever recover.

Now if you'll excuse me I have a prior engagement to see something by Stephen Sondheim or Andrew Lloyd Webber that I've seen at least 8 times thus far. Now there's art.
