Let my start by saying that I LOVE Abbey Road. It was the first vinyl album I bought, years before I had a record player. I just wanted to have it.

I listened to the 1969 set first. It was okay. None of the other albums were instant favorites. The White Noise one was the most interesting. Singles were good but not fantastic. But hey, it's got Abbey Road on it, so it's still going to be a tough team to beat.

Then I started on the 1979 set. It was late in the day, didn't have time for a double album, so I started with Madness. I was completely Blown Away. XTC was fantastic. Next day, I played London Calling. I've heard this before, and I've liked it more each time I heard it. Easily the most fun album in the BEA Top 20, and that includes Abbey Road. The Wire album was interesting. Talking Heads don't do much for me. Of the Singles, Cars and Boogie Wonderland are among my favorites of the year, and I Wanna Be Sedated is one of my two favorite Ramones tracks (hint: the other one is Do You Remember Rock and Roll Radio, also from 1979).

My point is, Team 1979 completely dominated Abbey Road (and friends).

Going with 1969 here (nice look 😉 ), but it's really really close. Great teams guys. It came down to that Madness album, which I'm not too fond of... love everything else that was presented.

OK: Kick Out the Jams

That 69 team is a beast.

1979

Love: 154, I Wanna Be Sedated, Boogie Wonderland

Like: London Calling, Fear of Music, One Step Beyond, Drums & Wires, Five Foot One

OK: Cars, Electricity

Two strong teams, '69 slightly more to my taste it would seem, only fitting when it's got The Stooges vs. 1979's Iggy. Vote to '69.

But hmm toughie. London Calling is the favorite across the board and is a sentimental, immortal favorite, Fear of Music is excellent and my favorite Talking Heads release, really really like the Wire and XTC releases as well as One Step Beyond (although the latter again would've been better utilized as a single). Pretty excellent singles team, if perhaps a bit staid overall. 69 in contrast has the excellent Hot Buttered Soul and Abbey Road, and while I like The Stooges and love certain songs, it always feels a bit tamed actually, perhaps in comparison to their following records- same goes for the Can record. Haven't heard the last album, due for a spin. Singles team is quite something, especially that Serge release.

No automatic decision here, will try to listen to more and see what hits and what's bitten the dust.

1969 for me. I just prefer The Stooges, Monster Movie, and particularly Hot Buttered Soul over anything on that '79 team.

I really really love the 1969 group, but 1979 has 3 of my all time favorites in London Calling, Drums & Wires and Fear of Music. And I also love 154 and One Step Beyond. I'm not even sure I'd vote for my own team if against this.
