but yeah I'd be pretty much dancing to anything that makes me happy enough to do it, so if I was in a club or sth and someone played some deep or progressive house I think it would be a bit eeh but throw some happy hardcore on and I'm going w i l d
Actual dance publications might give the time of day to these folks (RA hates Jamie xx, tho), but they are far from being held up as SAVIORS OF DANCE MUSIC by anyone besides the same Pitchfork bubble listeners who think black metal is a subgenre of punk rock. Publications that have consistently covered dance music and listeners who have consistently followed the trends or retreated to the underground do not take these acts as deadly serious as Pitchfork's genre diversity editorial committee does.
Yeah whenever this discussion pops up I feel like it's a bit of a stretch describing our favourite indie albums as dance music. Like it or not, the best dance music usually finds it's way into the charts.

The most 'dancey' internet favourites are probably Disclosure, Caribou and Jamie xx at the moment.

I could dance to Motor City Drum Ensemble all day if I had the energy. I can also get down pretty easily to 808 State, Frankie Knuckles, Mr. Fingers/Fingers Inc., Juan Atkins, sometimes Manuel Göttsching, The Bug, Derrick May, Virgo, Black Devil Disco Club, DJ Rashad (though this one tests my coordination), A Guy Called Gerald... and then GRIME gets me doing this fucked up white guy dance without fail. Basically anyone on DJ Magic's No Hats No Hoods Edition 1 can get me to move something. Outside of the wonderful world of electronics I also have little problem movin to Dexys Midnight Runners

edit: oh yeah and Afro-funk and just funk in general 😎

As much as I love Talking Heads and have tried to emulate the woman's hips Byrne mentions on Remain in Light plenty a time in the safety of my bedroom or the mental cocoon of intoxication, I believe this discussion might be better directed towards dance artists. In that case, I'd say Larry Levan, Derrick May, and Frankie Knuckles are pretty standard, widely accepted titans, and the quantity and quality of their output as well as its intangible "ass-shaking factor" is probably the highest. I lean more towards techno, though, so I enjoy dancing to Basic Channel even if its less that rhapsodic, effervescent experience you get with house and disco. I'd definitely dance to Regis or probably more easily to British Murder Boys, his project with Surgeon. As far as one obscurity I think summarizes and distorts and mashes up a lot of great electronic dance music idioms into one incredible package for home listening or use at the club, I'd suggest people check out Untrance's Deleted Seniors.
