When I was about 12/13 I was obsessed with so called post-punk revival bands and for the most pat I still like most of those bands now. The Kaiser Chiefs on the other hand - what on earth was I thinking?

I was once stuck in the flat kitchen cos I was making dinner and one of my flatmates had "Everyday I Love You Less And Less" on repeat and around the 4th time round I was starting to get about as heated as the water I was boiling the pasta in.

literally the opposite of how it is for me (used to cringe at Stupid Hoe now I love it)

I wouldn't say I loved them, and I don't really hate them now. I just listened to them a lot a couple of years ago and I don't listen to them anymore at all - and probably never will. 🤣

The Alkaline Trio album is the most likely I'd give another spin.

Was at one point head over heels in love with this golden record. But due to the fact that i frequently grow out of the phases i go through, i can no longer take this album seriously half of the time. But when I get into one of those moods where i just feel gloomy, i can rock this album all day.

I think when I was younger I used to completely tune the vocals out when I was listening to music. Nowadays I can't deal with the lyrics and the guy with the whiney voice on this album.

I adored both of these albums when I was a teenager, and I'm guessing I wasn't the only one here who did. Nowadays I may enjoy three or four tracks counting both albums, but the rest is pretty mediocre, I must admit. I still think "Breaking the habit" is a great track though.

You said it way better than I ever could. I agree with Breaking the habit though.

I've hinted at this in a few other threads, but I think a lot of pop-rock flavored stuff gets really, really worn out from over-exposure much more quickly than other music for me, even now at a time that I don't listen to as much and certainly don't endlessly repeat albums anymore. As a result, a lot of pretty major stuff is immediate background noise for me - David Bowie's non-Berlin/Station to Station stuff, all the Beatles records, a lot of the Flaming Lips catalog, etc. There's also big hype machine driven stuff that I overexposed myself to right off the bat like MBDTF that felt old by about a week after the album actually legitimately got released and the stuff that worked as a gateway to its influences and is thus sort of neglected at present like LCD Soundsystem and tons of others. Then there's the fundamental shifts in taste category where stuff like most indie rock languishes for me.

In fact a whole load of albums from that Britpop era...can't listen to Parklife all the way through, Pulp, etc. Only a couple I've never tired of and they would be the Elastica and Gene debut albums. I actually did listen to Definitely Maybe again for probably the first time in well over 10 years again recently and it wasn't too bad. Certainly nowhere near as good as I thought it was when it came out which kind of ties in with what a few of us were saying about the premature praising of this current decade, in the 'What's been the best decade for music thread'.

Pretty much anything by Coldplay. They were the first band I really got excited about back in 8th grade (yes, it took me that long to get into music.) I don't ever listen to them anymore, but of course still have a special attachment to Parachutes, ARoBttH, and Viva La Vida (and X&Y to some extent.)
