Not surprising. Hiding behind anonymity is the easy way out. If they had to post it that way in the first place, you know they're not brave enough to come out and admit it.

In all seriousness, everything which has been said on the issue has been said. 5 more pages of these wall of texts won't bring about a massive change. Why not be the change you want to see?

its been a wasteland since it was closed because now some people are ether watching their step so they dont get banned or purposely trying to push the envelope so they can be a super cool martyr.

My comment wasnt really directed towards you; it's a culmination of almost every "problem" we've had in the last ~year, maybe more. Most of it seems like air to me. I voiced myself when the whole "poisonous atmosphere" thing was going on (ie it really wasnt) and now it's the other side of the spectrum in people are talking about it being too restrictive. So, from what I gather from these 2 events, either we find a happy medium, which to be honest I think we either have or are fairly close to having, or the two sides split and whichever side loses goes away forever. This is literally the exact same thing that was happening a few months ago. People talking about leaving because the forums don’t align with what they’re about. And frankly that’s fine. As AM said, he can’t cater to every single member so there are bound to be some that won’t stay. Forums are fluid as hell, and members leaving isn’t the end of the world (and hey monthly user turnover has been very positive). Awesome members have left here for good before and there wasn’t a big theatrical performance made about it. Of course we miss them, but it just happens.

Jack’s banning also has nothing to do with that “don’t talk about members” rule either. He had chances before and after it was implemented. The lack of transparency I don’t really understand, but I think maybe you’ve already got that covered with AM? I mean the forums seem to break new bannings faster than I figure them out. Sooo

And ok let’s get this mods are always watching stuff out of the way too. I like to think that I haven’t changed my posting style since I’ve been a mod, and I won’t. I speak candidly about shit, so if I say something stupid call me out. And maybe that’s where the first wave of change earlier affected everything? That’s kind of why I opposed that whole ordeal in the first place. This place shouldn’t be completely anti-confrontation with the sort of “it’s my opinion and we disagree – end convo” deal. But in general, there isn’t stricter moderation going on. So that’s just a product of fear or illusion I guess. Either one is dumb. I’m not higher than you guys. My entire ban total is basically reserved to kida and gary clones. Im not going to ban you if say “wow that necharsian guy is a big dumb idiot” like christ. Maybe call me a douche or dongus or whatever you want and we can get past this ridiculous stuff.

Yeah and even then it's pretty good for a BEA summer. There have been times in the last week when I've been off of BEA for an hour only to find that every thread on the first page of the music forum has a post.

Fair enough, everybody experiences it differently.

Like I said, change is inevitable and what works for one won't necessarily work for others. Maybe my perception will change again, but lately I've found the Lounge to be a virtual wasteland -- about as edgy as that Al Haig Trio album I nominated for the +1500 tournament.

Oh for sure. I've been pretty busy recently so haven't been on as much, but since the Lounge was reopened I haven't noticed any particularly heavy-handed moderation. Jack was basically seeing how much he could get away with for years anyway (he'd admit as much himself if he was still here), and a ban was always an inevitability. I personally never feel scared of moderation, a large proportion of my posts are fairly blunt or otherwise laced with swear words and drug references and yet I don't feel like I have to rein in any of my impulses when posting here. I'm just not sure I'm seeing what others are seeing.
