I get the fact that this was Warrant's way to try to get under Tipper Gore's skin, but the profanity is just too over the top. The album only got stickered because of this :54 of swearing. What a "great" way for an album to end.

1. Don't Stop - The Stone Roses (The Stone Roses)

I appreciate the creativity (considering it's basically Waterfall played backwards), but I really can't listen to that song in full without getting annoyed or bored. However, I'd still rate The Stone Roses as one of my favourite albums of all time.

2. Silver - Doolittle (Pixies)

Sooooo annoying, but it's not too long so I don't normally skip it.

3. Videotape - In Rainbows (Radiohead)

I've tried so hard to like this song, because the rest of the album is near perfect... But I can't seem to get into it, I normally just end the album at Jigsaw Falling Into Place.

Sweepstakes used to bother me a lot on Plastic Beach simply because I thought it was much longer than it needed to be and too repetitive.

But it doesn't bother me nearly as much as it used to. Still my least favourite track on the album though.

This is a great example of when to ask what purpose the song serves. It's one eighth of the album and it is by no means a good song. But it's also kind of a light, goofing around jam that serves to lighten the album a bit and make it feel less weighty. IMO despite the fact that the song itself is not that good, it's inclusion actually helps the overall album. The whole being greater than the sum of it's parts and all.

more and more, i find i resonate with this, though i think "filler tracks" can be the strongest parts of an album. when done right, they set the tone of the album, and they make the "killer tracks" much stronger. i used to leave certain tracks off of albums when i put them on my iPod/iPhone (the previously mentioned Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors), but i've started to realize how much weaker that makes an album for me. it's not just the contrast of "this song rocks and this one doesn't".

but now i'm remembering what Mercury Rev and Cloud Cult have done with blank tracks and hidden tracks 10+ minutes after stretches of silence. that's the one that really irks me.

Edit: in Cloud Cult's case, two of my favorite tracks they've made are so far into blank tracks that I almost never listen to them. what's with that?

I think the point of that track is to showcase the same kind of weird humor that appears on Hooker With a Penis and Die Eier Von Satan; I'm sure Maynard found the message hilarious. I can understand not liking it, but that's hardly the longest or most pointless interlude on that album.

As for my own, I tend to really enjoy albums with filler if the highs are high enough. The closest thing to an album-ruining song for me is We Will Fall on The Stooges. Completely pointless and totally doesn't belong on the album. I can't think of a single good reason why there's a 10 minute long, repetitive slogfest between I Wanna Be Your Dog and No Fun.

Revolution 9 on the Beatles' White Album drags things down a bit.

I also really don't like "The Overload" on the Talking Heads' Remain in Light album, or "I Remember Nothing" on Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures.

I am mainly a defender of Sgt Pepper, but if you are asking me the choice is Abbey Road. It's more well written, consistent, and has more staying power in my opinion. I'm starting to lose that feeling of being enamored by Pepper, but not yet for Abbey Road and I've listened to each album pretty much equally.

"Past Life", from Currents by Tame Impala. I'm sure most people agree with me. The song wouldn't be so bad, but the voice-over makes it pretty much unbearable. I just get so annoyed with it.
Although I love the Beatles' later albums, it seems that every album of theirs always has that one song that I can't stand. Octopus' Garden, Yellow Submarine, What Goes On, Wild Honey Pie, Obla-di Obla-da (to an extent). All those songs piss me off, and yet I still love the albums they're on. That's why I have such trouble deciding between Abbey Road and Sgt. Pepper. The latter is more consistent, and every song is great, but, although it has Octopus' Garden and Her Majesty on it, Abbey Road also has most of my favorite Beatles songs. It's tough.

"Daylight" and "A Whisper" (A Rush of Blood to the Head) - it's hard to believe that these 2 awful songs are on the same album as "The Scientist" and "Clocks". Granted, "Daylight" has a good ending, but you have to suffer through more than 4 minutes before you finally get to it.

"Message to Harry Manback" (AEnima) - having an interlude where a guy spend 2 minutes on the phone saying "F**k you. I hope you die of cancer. I hope your family dies of cancer," is just so beneath a band like Tool. Am I really supposed to believe that there's a deeper meaning behind these horrible words?

"The Blood is Love" (Lullabies to Paralyze) - one of Josh Homme's most boring guitar riffs, and it drags on for more than 6 minutes. The album's previous track, "Someone's in the Wolf" is so much better.

"Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors" (Amnesiac) - After "Pyramid Song" is over, I tend to skip over this awful track and go right to "You And Whose Army?"

"We Suck Young Blood" (Hail to the Thief) - another Radiohead song that just rubs me the wrong way. The first 6 tracks on HttT are excellent, but this song just ruins the album's momentum.

I love Sloop John B. I think it's one of their more beautifully done tracks. Great melody, awesome harmonies. I think it fits perfectly. And for me, it stands as a reminder that in the middle of what Brian Wilson was doing with the album, it's still The Beach Boys. And they haven't forgotten who they are or what got them to that point in time. It's where their past and present meld together, and I think it makes Pet Sounds even more perfect.

Yeah I have no idea how one can like the rest of Pet Sounds and not like Sloop John B, it's really not that different from the rest of the tracks surrounding it. Same sort of rich varied instrumentation, stacked vocals and feeling of discontent explored in "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times" and "Caroline, No". Fits on the album perfectly I feel.

'It aint Easy' is the track that spoils Bowie's Ziggy Stardust album for me. It just doesn't fit with the rest of the album.

Also - slightly more obscure - 'God blessed our Love' is the duff track on what is otherwise Al Green's seminal album Explores Your Mind.

Both albums still make my top ten though.
