Common (I know he's put out far more important things but that one's mad underrated and I kind of love it)

Q-Tip (Phife is great with the group but his solo output does not hold up the same)

Ones that would be close for me would be Kendrick, Busta (this is more a recent thing than anything else but seriously check out Hello cuz that alone made me dig through more of what he's done and appreciate it in a different way), Mos Def, and Aesop Rock, and to a lesser extent both Chance and Milo.

Since you said this might be a good way to introduce people to rappers they might not know, here's 3 that I like a lot that are lesser known I guess:

I'll throw together some lists in a bit, but first just wanna mention that generally I don't believe in a real difference between favorite and best because subjectivity and all that, so I'll do favorite/best vs most technically proficient (though there are plenty of emcees I think have rapping chops but just don't do it for me)

Even in the latter category I think it's hard to get truly 100% objective measure of much. Ah well. Let's see what these lists look like I guess

There's a big difference between Favorite lists and GOAT lists.

I want to see some of your favorites in Hip Hop sitting beside the greatest in Hip Hop. This might be a good way to find some underground stuff to listen to that wouldn't necessarily make it into a Top MC list..
