Best was Arcade Fire two years ago. The only word to describe it is euphoric. Unbelievable night.

Then other worthy mentions:

David Byrne and St. Vincent, I was expecting this to be good but I was surprised at just how good it was. Byrne obviously doesn't have the same energy as he did when he was younger but he still has unbelievable stage presence.

Run The Jewels, I got punched in the face but for some reason that stood out to me as a highlight.

Then the worst was Kanye West one week after that Arcade Fire show blew me away. It started off well but it quickly became apparent he didn't want to be there whatsoever. The whole thing was summed up perfectly when he walked off cause he wasn't happy with the curtains around the stage. I love Kanye, his music and his antics but that wasn't cool. Also his DJ kept making fuck ups, he got fired a few weeks later which I suppose was justifiable.

Also if you're thinking of seeing the Strokes my advice is don't bother.

                          Best concerts are:
Neil Young preferably with Crazy Horse and fully electric: different occasions
Nick Cave: especially performing Mercy Seat
Iggy Pop especially on The Passenger
Wilco: different occasions
Sophia
Smashing Pumpkins just after Siamese Dreams; on a later concert they sucked
Sebadoh: different occasions on one he set up his own equipment and just started to play

Worst: double concert from two of my heroes: Built to Spill were uninspired and Dinosaur Jr too loud and not focused

I've seen a ton of incredible shows. My first concert was Springsteen in 2009, which turned out to be the last American tour with Clarence Clemons in the band. That night they played Born to Run in it's entirety. It was beautiful. Metallica left me starstruck, the Chili Peppers killed it, Stevie Wonder's show (SITKOL Performance tour) was nearly immaculate, and Foo Fighters are always top tier, but the best show overall was probably Iron Maiden's 2012 tour, the Maiden England tour. The setlist, stage show, performances, and fucking energy was unmatched by many artists I've seen who are half their age. Can't wait to see them again on April 5th.

As for the worst, I have two which were notably disappointing for different reasons. First, Judas Priest on their supposed farewell tour at Joe Louis Arena in Detoit. The opening band (Thin Lizzy funnily enough) had the best sound of the night, but when Priest came on stage their sound was awful and muddled and I couldn't understand a single word Rob Halford was saying. They were playing well and had a great stage and setlist, but it was a huge disappointment sound-wise. Second was Marilyn Manson at Rock on the Range in Columbus last year. I wasn't expecting much from him but we were there so thought we would watch him as we waited for the headliner. When I say I've never seen an artist mail in a performance like he did, I mean it. He doesn't give a shit anymore and it's pretty apparent. Plus the 45-60 seconds of silence between songs was very awkward to say the least.

Best: Manchester Orchestra/Cage The Elephant. The high energy of Cage The Elephant juxtaposed with the more intense live performance of Manchester Orchestra was perfect. Plus I was on the front rail, the only time I've ever been first row at a concert. The lead singer of Cage The Elephant actually wore my hat for a song. Just a lot of great memories from the show.

The Shins. They played a relatively small club venue in Boston maybe around 2010 or 2011, and the intimate setting was fantastic. Jessica Dobson was a touring guitarist with them at the time and she was a blast to watch as well. James Mercer is a brilliant musician and seeing him live only made me love him more.

Worst: Guns N Roses (Axl Rose and backing band). I think it was '08. My friend couldn't find anyone else who was interested so I went just so he didn't waste the ticket. I wasn't excited about it at all. Axl pulled his normal shit and showed up late, they didn't go on until almost 2 hours after Papa Roach finished (They were actually half way decent even though I don't like their music). And before Papa Roach Skid Row performed. It was just a depressing concert with a bunch of 40 and 50 somethings trying to stay young. And general admission meant everyone had to stand for close to 5 hours before it mercifully ended. And the kicker is the sound was terrible for Axl et al, probably to drown out his beaten up and aging voice.

I don't like concerts, and I can think of only five that I've been to in my entire life, so this probably isn't the best question for me, but here we go.

The worst concert I've been to was Vampire Weekend. This was in...probably 2010 or thereabouts. I wasn't familiar with the band at the time (and I'm still not, for the most part; this is probably something I should rectify). I was dragged there by a friend of mine because he couldn't get anyone else to go with him. The opening act was this woman who seemed to spend her entire time on stage bragging about how she knew some celebrity, but for some reason she couldn't say the person's name. She kept giving hints of who it was but I had no idea; I'm woefully ignorant of celebrity culture. The friend I went with was confident she was talking about Lindsay Lohan. Who knows. Whatever.

Anyway, Vampire Weekend eventually came on and played their set. It was fine, but like I said, I didn't know the music so it wasn't special to me. And it was in this little venue packed with sweaty smelly people constantly bumping into me. Not my idea of a good time.

The best concert I went to was Jon Schmidt, a pianist. It was in a university auditorium, so I was able to sit in a comfortable chair the whole time. He played pleasant music, and that was that. It was nice.

My favorite concert was seeing The Oh Hellos play at a local bar in San Luis Obispo. To start, the opening band (I can't remember what their name is) was extremely good and were extremely friendly. It took a while for the Oh Hellos to finally come on stage but when they did it was so amazing. The whole stage was filled with energy and everyone was dancing and having a great time. In between songs, the band members would crack jokes and talk to the crowd. They were definitely natural performers and were extremely friendly. They were also just about to release their new album Dear Wormwood so we got to hear a bunch of new songs as well.

One of those 'I was there' moments. Spring Heel Jack opened, and from (my very hazy) memory they were fucking awesome. But Spacemen and co. blew the roof off - the 'Pure Phase' coda running through the whole thing, the gospel choir, the balloons falling down from the ceiling at the end. On our way out my mate Eilir and I bumped into Bobby Gillespie, whom we greeted only to be met with some incomprehensible Scottish rambling, doubtlessly fuelled by something not available at the choc-ice stand at the interval. Hard to believe it was almost 20 years ago.
WORST

Loads to choose from, but has to be Animal Collective at Field Day 2013. Just saw Four Tet and was buzzing, then AC came on playing tracks from Centipede Hz which I'd previously seen them play live twice before (once in Eastbourne, 2011, and then again at The Roundhouse). It wasn't so much that they were awful, it was just that the sound was ATROCIOUS (whoever was behind the mixing desk must've still been tripping to Four Tet) and AnCo were blatantly just going through the motions. I'd seen Animal Collective 7 times before this gig and loved them to bits (in fact their gig at Camden's Koko c.MPP era would be in my top 3) - and I haven't seen them since.
I haven't caught them yet and probably won't be able to catch this farewell tour, don't know if you saw but they just announced they're breaking up

Yeah I saw that yesterday. It kind of seemed like something that was coming for a while now, but still pretty sad. If you do get the chance to see them, though, I strongly encourage you to. They're probably the most engaging band I've ever seen live.

Seeing Rammstein live when I was 12 was pretty much the most amazing show for me. Those dudes put on a masterful show. Also Waits in about 2010 was special. And the police-stopped Ministry show was surreal. That was when I first braved the mosh pit and I was not ready. I got chicken pox the next day, my glasses broke, a 5'10 heavy set girl totally dominated me, and my sister left the show with a huge knot on her head from where Al Jurgenson (Ministry lead singer) smashed his boot on her head as he dived off the stage to fight a couple hecklers. Again, that was the most intense live performance I've seen. Then waiting outside the club for my mommy to pick us up as the cops came in and everyone was kicked out was awesome. It felt so punk rock. Maybe not the "best", but also kinda yeah.

Worst? Sadly the first that comes to mind is the Modest Mouse show last year. Everything about it, the crowd energy, the band, the set list, the sound quality, all was terrible. I hated that I had just wasted 3 hrs of my life in the endeavor.
